Default Surgery bills.....Blue Cross......how long?

I had my surgery on 3/13, and to date, I've still not gotten any definitive bills for the surgery, hospital stay, doctors, etc. I've gotten statements from Blue Cross showing what I will have to pay, but haven't gotten the actual bills yet.

My question is - by what month did you Blue Cross folks finally get final bills for the surgery and hospital stay?

I'm sitting on a bunch of dough, waiting for the bills, and there's other things I can definitely use it on (like shoes!)

Hi Carolyn -

I also have (or had at the time of surgery) BC. I got my EOB about a month after, and then I got the bill for my portion of $250.00 about a month and a half after. Perhaps you don't owe anything? Check with your policy to see what you actual out of pocket will be If you are super concerned, you can also call your doctor or hospital billing.

I had my surgery on March 20th and just got my last bill - the "hospital room" bill (only $100 - whoo hooo) on June 3rd or 4th. My EOBs from BCBS came within 2 weeks of surgery - but the actual bills have been slow. The only exception was my surgeon - who I paid upfront (only $287). I got my anesthesia and radiology group bill about 8 weeks after the surgery - sometime at the end of May.

Now . . . don't you go buying any shoes. . .. when you really need pants! hee hee

If you're feeling generous, I could shop for pants that don't fall to the floor for me

We had our surgery the same day and the only bill I have received is the copay for my hospital stay. I have onle received the statements from BC stating what I will owe. So until they arrive, I wait.

My surgery was November 7, 2005 and Blue Cross "processed" the hospital bill on January 4, 2006. Then it was a while after that that the hospital sent me a bill for my 20% co-pay.

Well, at least it's not just my insurance holding stuff up. I know that there is a lot of back and forth between my insurance company and the hospital ("we'll pay for THAT bandaid, but not the little bandaids" - LOL). But, I never thought it would take THIS long.

Thanks for your input, guys!

I've never seen a bill and since I don't owe anything I don't think I am going to see any...hmmmmm.

Another thing to remember is that what hospitals bill and what they eventually accept from Blue Cross are very different things. My hospital bills were cut by about 85% by Blue Cross.
