Question Cost for a Trainer?!

Hi everyone -

I know this guy at my church who is a trainer at a local gym, and he pffered to train me once I was able after surgery. We have been training since last week, and I really enjoy his style with the variety etc. He did the forst 2 weeks pro bono as a friend, but his time is money, so we talked about it yesterday. To work together 3X/week is $50.00 per session, 2X/week is $60.00 per session, and 1X/week is $90.00 per session. He (of course) is recommending 3X/;week for 3 months to kick my body into serious shape, but DH & I are afraidof the cost. He also asks that a contract be signed and payment be made up front to demonstrate commitment.

What do you all think?

For those of you who have trainers, do you mind sharing the cost...and if they wanted payment up front?

Thanks for your help, and any insight you can offer...I have to tell him tonight or tomorrow

while i've never had a personal trainer ( starting the gym tomorrow.. eek! they give u 4 sessions with a trainer ) i think the cost is a little high and while he can defintely help you with your body - the work is mostly up to you. now i am not sure if you are going to be considering plastic surgery in the long run but i would personally use him 1x a week and save the other 60.00 a week into a fund for future p.s. if that is what you are going to do. my friend had the p.t. sessions at the gym (the 4 included in the membership) and he said that is all he needed.. they showed him the equipment and everything and now if the trainer sees him he still offers moral support like good job or your looking great.

$60/session is what is charged at my gym and it is pay as you go. No matter which program you decide on, I don't think it should be paid up front. I think you definitely work harder with a trainer, but after a few sessions, you may be self motivated and not need it or find a partner to work out with at no cost

But if you do use them, it will be money well spent as you will see results!!!

When I had a trainer 4 years ago it was $25 per session, but I had to pay for something like 12-16 sessions upfront. It has been 4 years, so I am sure the price has gone up up up!!

My sister owns a personal training facility for women - they only do personal training (no open gym time for member) Granted, we are in the south where things are much cheaper - but her rates are $35 an hour session if you train 3 times a week. She also allows group training - you get one or two of your workout buddies and split the fee of $35 for the first person, $10 for each additional person - so 3 girls working with my sis for an hour would be $55.00. My sis requires the client to pay for one week worth of sessions at the beginning of the week, it helps with cancellations - she requires 24 hours notice to cancel a session. She runs her facility with no contracts - only the weekly thing.

I would check the market in your area - there may be a better fit for you!!

I went to 24 Hour Fitness (not sure if they're in the LA area), and they charged me $50/session. Personal trainers are well worth the money, if they're good.....they target your specific areas.

Whitney,

I'm going to a gym that has a trainer available for anyone at all times. I paid for an entire year upfront, just so that I wouldn't have to worry about it. The trainer spent about three actual sessions with just me, but as I've progressed and decided to work on different target areas, there's one available whenever you need them. I guess I'm lucky...there's no way that I could afford the kind of trainers you all are talking about. I don't even think we have those types of trainers here. Sheesh...that's what I get for living in Podunk, Idaho.

My annual membership was about $650, but they also provide an on-site dietician who supplies menus, recipes and grocery shopping lists plus nutritional counseling AND they have a twice weekly support group available for emotional and psych issues.

I decided I needed help in all three areas...body, nutrition and the noggin...and...apparently it's working!

Good Luck!

Default It's worth it

I work out at 24 hour fitness and I started with a 5 session package for $250 (it was a special deal) and really enjoyed my workouts with my trainer. She has designed a work out that is great for me.

When I finished the 5 I then bought 10 more sessions at $600. I'm saving my pennies right now to be able to purchase more training sessions. I find that the more I work out the more variety I need and she switches up the routine keep it interesting.

My schedule is 2x's a week with trainer (weights, balance, core exercise) and 3x's a week cardio. I love it and don't regret the money spent.

I am a member of L. A. fitness. The membership is 24.99 per month and the trainer is 25$ per 1/2 hour session.

It is worth it to me.
I think the body has benefited from it.

Mostly because he makes me show up!!

i live in NY so the prices here might be different... but his prices seem a little high. my gym is 85/month and then personal trianing is $80 per hour, unless you get a package (doesn't matter if it's used all in one week or over the course of hte year, but you buy a certain number of sessions at a time, the more sessions you buy, the cheaper the per hour rate). SO now it costs me about $54/hr.

It is the best money i have ever spent. I work out harder, and it motivates me for the rest of the week.
