Default My taste in food is changing.

I noticed lately that my taste in food has been changing. It's kind of weird. I used to hate veggies and now I find myself craving them. Also, I have a hard time eating chicken, and now I am repulsed by it. I used to love chicken. Have any of you had this happen?

Welcome to one of the side effects of WLS. I have been "off" chicken also. I can do red meat in small amounts but something about chicken gets me. I understand that what may bother you one time will be ok down the road a bit. Good luck.

Default it's normal

What you are going through is very common. Your tastes will change daily or weekly. I eat foods now that I could never stand pre-surgery. Also, something that makes me sick one day is just fine the next day or week. So if, like you say, you can't stand chicken today, try it again in a week. You never know how things will change. The worst dumping experience of my life happened when I ate Egg Foo Young. I had every symtom of dumping including vomitting and the runs. It was terrible. Yet, one week later, I ate it without any problems at all. Go figure.

My tastes have definitely changed also. I absolutely love veggies now. I "crave" broccoli, and tonight I had a few brussels sprouts..something you couldn't have paid me to eat before. I don't even think about cake or candy bars...YUKKKKKK. I do sneak a potato chip every now and then. I crave the salty stuff now. I don't do chicken. It made me very ill one time and just haven't done it since. I can do red meat just fine. Our guts can be tempermental at times.

Red face Not the only thing to change

Hi Tabitha,
Funny you should mention that your taste buds changed. That happened to me the day after surgery. I went from really disliking water to only wanting to drink water. The diet, sugar free popsicles I ate were way too sweet to tolerate! My first bite of chicken was horrendous! Now, I can eat it just fine. I can't do the Crystal Light or Propel waters because they are too sweet, but I can do iced tea with sweet 'n low. It's only one of many changes that you will notice and I imagine they're all normal.

The thing I'm dealing with currently is that my hair has officially started falling out more than normal. Oh goody, goody. That too, I know will get better.

My favorite change throughout this whole process though is the amazing results I am getting from losing weight!

So, although there are some disappointing changes, being a LOSER is one of the best out of the bunch!

Smile Oh yeah.. the change!

I have the most bizarre craving... horseradish! i love the stuff, and I never had it all a day BEFORE surgery. I just got this really weird desire to eat it on red meat...

I dont care for chicken, the smell of fried food sends me over the edge... I use to love chinese food but now I cant tolerate it... chicken... ewwww. Red meat use to have to be well done before I would eat it, now I HAVE to have my red meat medium rare... cant stomach it any other way. Stuff is funny, lofe is like a mystery everyday now... not knowing whether or not you will be able to handle something on a day to day basis... keeps you on your toes!

Well, before surgery I loved cheese. Now I am lactose intolerant and can't have it. But I have been able to add chicken to my diet. Turkey bacon is a big no way though. Eggs are hit or miss with me, I can only eat about 3 small bites of them regardless. Haven't made it to any veggies really, but I can do a banana for breakfast!

Cool Taste Changes

I have a similar problem. I did a google search for post bariatric surgery taste changes and found this post. I am 5 1/2 months post surgery and have lost 112 lbs so far. My problem is that I can't find anything that I can eat other than chicken and rice or noodle soup. I have tried to east a little meat for the protein, but I find that I get nauseous when I eat any meat. It doesn't matter if it is beef, chicken or pork (I don't eat fish). It also doesn't matter if it is baked, boiled or nuked. I just saw my nutristionist and was told that I wasn't getting enough protein. Any ideas on what I can do? I also find that I can't eat eggs and can't drink milk. So for breakfast I usually eat cheerios with out milk or oatmeal. For lunch its chicken soup. For dinner I sometimes just end up not eating at all because I have no appetite for anything! The weight loss is great but I feel that I am also losing a lot of muscle.
