Today was the first day that I missed the old me. Long story short, but over 12 years ago I was a paramedic, married, obese and trying to get pregnant. After 4 years I was pregnant and so happy. I continued to work my fulltime job in recreation and helped out ambulance work as I could...very hard living in a small town on a pager responding to emergencies with a baby. So my family came first and I gave it up. My back and legs were having great difficulties with the job, but I loved it.

Today, at 7am, my phone rang asking if I could help out as a greyhound bus was in an accident and they needed all the first aid people they could. They called all the sawmills and they sent workers. Dropped my daugher off and headed out to help. Things went very well and as I was about to return to work a second greyhound also hit the ditch, not as bad as the first one (first went down a 25foot embankment). The roads are sheer ice - we had minus 40 and went to plus 1 and rain, so ice, ice, ice. Could not even stand on the road in boots. Not that I am happy that people were hurt, but my passion came back. I have SO been missing that life! The second greyhound only had 2 people, so not too bad. Its hard to put all this into words, but I found the old Lisa today. The one with spunk and passion. Although a much smaller one...the girls on ambulance didn't even know it was me! They had choppers and cars from the region here, including my old trainer and nobody knew it was me. I did.

Lisa,

I just love you and the way you think. You are awesome and I love reading about your experiences. What an awesome thing to happen.

Dive back in and do it. If it makes you happy, you owe it to yourself.

Lisa,
I understand! The passion to make a difference in people's lives, to be someone that they remember with gratitude, is a heady brew. I was also an EMT--not quite a paramedic, but I know the feeling. I felt that way when I was the Imaging Manager for a good sized hospital. How I miss it! Being able to make decisions that impact many people in a positive way, having to think on my feet and 'put out fires' on a daily basis, and getting paid wonderful money at the same time.

I totally get you, and want to tell you how inspirational you are to me. When you are down, you pick yourself up and DO SOMETHING. You act. You do what makes it better, even if it's not the easiest thing. You are able to calmly assess your situation and take care of business. I love how you care about yourself and your family. I love you, who you are, what you do, and how you do it. Thank you for being on this forum and sharing yourself with us.

Today I ran a lifeguard exam at our facility - both theory and practical. Wow, I miss that. My legs, back and even arms hurt. I teach a 5 day course for new lifeguards starting next weekend and looking forward to it. My body is going to take its toll, so I plan on adding in extra protein drinks as its about 4 hours of water rescue a day for 5 days and the another 4 hours running practical simulations and activities. I am sure to sleep well at night.

The scale reads 155, which surprises me. Not sure why it up a few pounds. Certainly keep my eye on it and if its the same after the course, then I am gonna have to cut back on some calories and get in more exercise. Could just be temporary, but its scares me!

I have eaten more oatmeal with flax seed and bran than I normally do, but I wanted to increase my fibre intake. Have it 3-4 times a week and don't add any milk to it. Maybe thats the cause. No alarm bells yet. Feeling great though.

All in all, things are going great.

Lisa,

You have my admiration, that's for sure.

To be able to impact people's lives in such a positive way must be so rewarding. Sending you huge hugs.

You are amazing Lisa. Sounds like you are keeping busy but I can tell that you love it.

Loved your early post about the helping with the bus accident. Again you just have a zest for life and the things that you do.

How is skating going for Andrea? That must be coming to a close soon.

Here's to spring a warmer temperatures. Maybe I'm a bit early but one can always dream.

Been a very busy few weeks and finally have some breathing room. All is going well in all aspects. The weather is super crazy, and it was minus 30 yesterday morning and today its zero! Nuts!!!!

When teaching in the pool the past weeks it was very different doing water rescues not being a fat person. I don't float like I used to. Had to work a little harder to stay up and support another person..fun, but different. One thing that is very strange is to have a tight tummy area. I can't remember a time when I had a tight belly - ever! Not sure if its normal to feel a tug or pull there after a tummy tuck. Did pull a little tummy muscle the first day, but all worked out fine. I definately have a lot more flexibility and able to move in ways I haven't in years.

Eating is good. Trying to add in more "clean food", which I have always been very happy to eat good foods. Went through a "super hungry" phase where I felt like I was never full, however this has passed (thank goodness). It was a little scary.

One thing that I still struggle with at times is business lunch meetings. I don't get to pick where we go, and sometimes not what we eat. Soup just doesn't cut it, nor does salad. Its SO FUNNY how people who don't understand our eating routines think that soup and salad is the best meal. NOT! My pouchie loves heavy food..so silly, but it does. I quite often order a grilled chicken sandwich, ditch the bread and eat the chicken with the fixins.

So not much new to report...just living life and happy doing it!
