out of the mobid obese
So today I moved from the morbid obese to severely overweight. BMI is now under 40. Thats the good news. I only lost 3 lbs in the last 10 days which I am not so happy about....but as you all say, there are plateau's and I have to be patient. I am down 44 lbs in the 8 weeks, so I should be happy. 25 inches in total, not much to speak of the last 2 weeks.
I am eating better now after the scope and living like a normal person. I go back to work in a week too, which is exciting.
I am able to walk with my family and dog without getting a sore back and getting winded....I am thankful.
I am off all medications except those for stool softners - thanks to everyone for their guidance on this one. I am still trying different things to make it all work.
My protein intake and food intake have increased now and I have gone from 1/4 cup of food at one sitting to 1/3 cup for most meals.
Fluids are going in well too.
I was not very successful in regular weight loss attempts - maybe for a little while, but not long. I still have to remind myself that "I can do this!" I have been successful in my life, think positive about most of my life, but Weight Loss is another thing. I really need to get my head in the space of "I can do this, everyday!". Not sure how I will get there, but I know that I must. I try to picture myself in a size 14 or 16 and this would be good for me, although I would ideally like to reach the goal weight that I have set.....I guess I should remember "baby steps", "small chunks" and patience.
So, I have alot to be thankful for......and goals for the next 2 weeks.

another day........
The day started off with phone calls from work - and fires to put out. After a few hours of meetings and rearranging schedules...it all worked out.
Cereal and milk seem to be the stand in for breakfast. I feel really good in the morning, but don't want to start eating right away.
Lunch was a few tortilla chips with cheese and salsa. Dinner was asperagus - yum, and chili with cheese. Chili is one of the best things that goes down...and good for me too.
My goal tonight is to get in as much fluid as I can. The last few days, I have been getting in 48+ oz, but I would like more. A few popsicles can add to that. Anyone know how many oz. to count popsicles as?
I have had a few good walks in the last few days as the weather is getting a little nicer. It feels "oh, so good to be out there". My legs are a little sore, but that means I am actually doing something!
Its hard to describe, but water tastes different than it did before surgery. I find most drink too sweet and yucky after a while. Water is just nice and crisp and cold and oh so good.

It should be written on the package. Maybe try making your own so that you can measure the liquid, an ice cube size would be like an ounce. Hope this helps.

Lisa,
I am so thrilled to hear the great news. I followed your posts since you joined and was very upset when I learned that you were on such a long, long, long waiting list. I was however, thrilled when I heard you had a surgery date. I can feel your excitement and happiness since you had the surgery and the joy in the tone of your post. Congrats. on your success so far. Remember, you are always losing inches. Also, sunflower seeds help with the bowels if you want to try them. I still have to take stool softeners because of the pain meds. Sunflower seeds always help me.
Baby steps and patience are the keys to success. I know you can do it and I will be here to cheer you on.

Thanks Dale...how touching. Its so true, I am so happy about having the surgery...even with the tough times or complications. Thats for your support. I love sunflower seeds....I will try them too. The milk of magnesia seems to work the best so far.

I feel so good that this morning I forgot I had the surgery and started to eat cereal too fast and while I was talking to the daughter at the kitchen table. A little pressure in the chest, but soon went away.
I took her too school and then went to waterfit....oh it felt SO good. I am the manager of the facility that I went to, but I fit right in. In fact the bathing suit I wore was a little too loose and I am ready for the next size, maybe 2 sizes down. The jumping was a little tender in the upper abdominal area, but I held it in and it turned out ok.
3 more days and I return to work. I have quite a bit more energy, thus walking a few times a day and feeling really good. This will hopefully help with stamina for the long days at work.
I wore my new jeans that I bought last week (cheepies) and I was just about able to do them up last week, yesterday I wore them all day - done up! Felt so good. When I saw my friends later in the day, I was flashing my waistline to everyone. I haven't worn jeans that were NOT stretch or elastic waist in SO LONG, I can't remember - has to be at least 10 years! Made me feel much better after my 3lb weight loss in the past 10 days.

walking...
The walking 2 or 3 times a day has been going well. My back was a little sore this morning (I did too much yesterday) but regardless, I went for a nice walk with the daughter and dog tonight. I almost have to drag the dog home the last few blocks (he gets so tired). He is a Shih-Tzu and is 3 years old, but only used to 1 walk a day, not 3.
Food went really good at lunch, not so good at supper. Its so strange, I don't know why the pouch accepts the same food one day and not the next. It might have been that I ate too fast, maybe not...Its so strange and irritating.
Energy level is steadily increasing, very happy about that.

I want to know
I want to know if you had any problems with the surgery. I have had one bad day after another. I had the surgery just over a year ago and have been sick every single day. Due to the problems with the surgery I had to have a revision of the surgery 1 1/2 months after the first surgery. Had 10 different endoscopies done. Almost bled to death and spend approx 3 to 4 months all together in the hospital. I just want someone to be honest with me and if they had any problems with the surgery. I have lost 167 pounds since the surgery but my weight loss is mostly due to lack of eating and vomiting. Please contact me and let my know what your days are really like and if you have found anything that really works to stop the vomiting.
Please email me at punkin97411@yahoo.com

Hi Valarie. I have emailed you directly. Welcome to the board. If you haven't already, check out posting under post-op and you can read about other post-opers experiences with their surgery. This is a great place for support and to ask questions. You sure have been through a lot in the last year. Wishing you all the best. Lisa

I actually melted one into a measuring cup - the s/f ones are 2 oz per pop, sweetie pie
