Default Surgery approval

OK, I know I'm going to have to take a Vicadin tonight to get to sleep... opened the mail today and there was a letter from my insurance that I wont mention who it is, ok Blue Cross, saying I owe my provider 44,000 dollars for the surgery I had on Dec. 6. Uh, excuse me? I hope this is a joke! I called my surgeons office before scheduling the surgery to double check with them was I really approved and they assured me yes everything was ok. So whats up? Luckily I have an appointment tomorrow for follow up, you can bet what I'll be asking the minute I get there! Somebody please tell me I'm not understanding insurance talk here!

I know it's easy for me to say and I probably wouldn't be able to take my own advice...but take a deep breath, I am sure it is either a mistake or just a statement for your files.

Wowzers - that sure is a surprise to come home to. Yes...DO talk with your doctor, and see if you can get a copy of theor approval. They may make a simple call to rectify the situation, but it will make you feel better to have your original approval in hand...I wish you the best of luckand prayers are with you. Be sure to let us know what happens...

Jana I would check that out but I do know some people who have recieved a bill for surgery but the insurance company picked up the bill. I guess it is a part of procedre to send out a bill. Fingers crosed for you.

My old insurance company used to take so long to pay for things that the Dr would end up sending copies of the bill (when they printout their billing for the month) just because it had not been paid yet. Don't sweat it yet! I am sure it is just a mixed wire somewhere!

My ins TRIED to refuse to pay for my surgery. However, they made a HUGE error approving it to begin with (not for me but for them! ) and then the nmade another HUGE error when the hospital called for approval the day before and they excepted liability for the claim. Try not to worry about it! It may just be the first bill the hospital sent out and they haven't received payment yet.

I wouldn't worry too much because I always get a bill. And I always call them about it and of course they tell me to disregard it because like one member said, they ake too long to pay the bill the doctor sends out a bill.
