Default holly's adventure

hey everyone
im new to this site and also to gastric bypass in general. i learned about gastric bypass firsthand when my friend took the plunge and had it in july 2005. she has lost aprox. 100 lbs to date.

anyways this is about me.

my name is holly and i am 22 years old. i am from north east pennslyvania. i go to school part time and am eventually going to graduate as a nurse. i also work full time. i am the asst. manager at my local KFC. i have been heavy my whole life. my highest weight was 275. last janurary i decided to do something about that. i am currently 235. i have gone up and down a lot the last year. over 60 lbs and then gaining 20 lbs back. i have finally gotten fed up.

on december 27, 2005 i went to an information session. it was held in the o&e building at hazleton general hospital and was presented by the doctor that will be performing the surgery dr. michael bono.

on december 29, 2005 i had my first appointment with the doctor. it went very well! i am so excited. the staff at the doctor's offfice is great and i know i will be in the best of hands.

jane, the nurse at doctor bono's is currently setting all my apointments up.
i will post as soon as i get that information.

Welcome Holly! Great to have you here! I hope you find all the support and answers you need here.
Interesting story since you work at KFC. My grandad knew Colonel Sanders. He was born in Corbin, KY (moved to Detroit at age 12) and when he was a kid his mom (my great grandma) and Aunt worked at Harlan Sanders motel and general store. According to my grandad he was a miserable mean man! He got int othe chicken game very late in life. If you ever get to Corbin, KY you can go to the very first KFC. It's not a big deal but it does have a historical landmark plaque. We went when I was a kid. When my great grandma died and we went throug hher things we found a recepit from the hotel that he had written up for her and signed. I kept it and I'm not sure why. Hey maybe Colonel Sanders autograph is worth something on ebay?

hey everyone,
thanks for the warm welcomes.

LizardQueen - i would think it would be worth something to someone. you could always make it a reserve auction and if doesn't meet that reserve you don't have to sell it. it's weird what people save. when i was cleaning my dad's house out in october we found a tube with our names written on it. there was a kanas newspaper from when the moon landed. it had been passed down to us. i thought that was pretty cool. im sure it's worth something but i haven't decided to sell it yet.

coptergirl - i can't wait either. thank you very much for the nice welcome. this is going to be a very interesting ride seeing as i haven't ever been to the doctor THIS much.

hey everyone
thought i would post that i have my next 2 doctor visits scheduled.
on monday 1/9/06 i am going to visit the gastroenterologist (did i spell that correctly?) anyways for an office visit then on 1/12/06 i am getting the upper gi done. also on 1/12/06 i am getting the venous doppler done. sometime this week i also need to go get a chest xray.

after these visits i still have lots more to do but i may get a march surgery? who knows really? i am trying to work it out around spring break or after the semester ends but if i have to take a week off or so to actually go have the surgery in late march/april i will.my mom says im very impatient when it's something i want and hate to wait..

too bad this is a big waiting game..

Glad to hear things are going well for you. Good luck with the testing you have coming up. I think the waiting game is definitely for a reason. It's not something to rush into, and having the tests, etc., gives us time to think.

updates..lets see.. it has been a whole month almost!
i completed everything and it got sent to insurance..

jane (nurse cordinator) called me on thursday 2/16 to tell me it was being sent and to set up my surgery date.. MARCH 8TH like i wanted..
then she called me on tuesday 2/21 to tell me insurance wanted proof that i haad been overweight for 5 years..
wednesday 2/22 i drove over an hour to a hospital i had been in back in 2001 to get proof i was overweight. i faxed that over.
now i am just waiting to hear that everything is defintely approved.
i think it will be because i think thats all they wanted to make sure i was fat since i am so young (22) for a long enough time and had tried enough diets.

i started my liquid diet on wednesday 2/22 also. it has been alright. its really hard eating some of the food cos i dont like the taste of it. protein powder is really the only way i get most of my protein in and it only doesnt bother me that much if it is in oatmeal.

i have been weighing myself every morning and so far in 3 days ive lost 10 lbs.. i dont know if thats true or not because your not suppose to weigh yourself every morning but ill check for sure on wednesday when it's been 1 week

oh yeah, work. i am an asst. manager at a kfc. IT HAS BEEN SO HARD smelling the chicken. i wish i could change jobs for a month or two. lol

thats all for now
12 more days till surgery!
