Default Hello new here

Hello everyone,

I am new here although I have read your posts and comments for a while now. I am greatly encouraged by your progress.

I am pre-op, I am in the final stages of getting it all together. The last thing I have to do before they schedule is the stress test and that is on Thursday. Although they also want to do an echocardiogram the same day because they heard a small murmur. The cardiologist assured me it was nothing to be concerned about.

I am lucky my insurance (Blue cross Federal) is super easy on this. I hope with all my heart to have this done before the end of the year.

I have been keeping a journal .. mostly about how to navigate the system to get this all done. Strangely the hardest part of this whole thing is getting the letter of medical necessity from my doctor. It isn't that he thinks I don't need it, it is that it took a month to get it and then it was riddled with errors. I am in the process of getting a corrected one and that is a frustrating thing.

I am excited about the changes that will come, I almost feel that I am on hold waiting breathlessly for the time to come.

Is there anyone else here who chose not to share this with members of ( extended) family until AFTER the surgery? I just know there will be a few people that will be ... umm a pain and a downer about it. I choose to not let them be that.

I am doing the Lap RNY or that is the plan going in.

I can't wait to have the neat little highest/current/goal under my name... until then I will post my current weight and BMI.

I am also going through the getting my house in order. Any advice on that? Did anyone else do that?

Hi Gina and Welcome to the forum. You will find some much information here and also support. Like you I have had a fairly easy time getting an approval from my insurance company (United Healthcare RR benift). I got the medical neccessity letter and within weeks I was approved. Thank God! The only part I had a problem with was my insurance sending the approval letter, they gave the approval VIA phone to me and the hospital and kept saying they sent the letter and we never received it. That took about a month. Other then that things have progessed for me rapidly.

I had chosen to tell everyone I am having the LAP surgery and I have tremendous support from everyone. But then again my father died from being MO and my family definetly does not want to see that happen to me. So they all support my decision.

I too have got my house ready for when I come home from surgery. I have cleared my house of my addicting foods like Pepsi, and all the junk food I loved. I did have a really big feast when I got my surgery date I ate every food I was in love with..Heee I am bad...

I wish you a lot of luck on your journey and I am sure you will find peace in this "family"! They are a great bunch!

Renee
