I had my surgery, RNY, on March 16, 2009. Leading to this was 2 years of trying on my own to lose the weight and working with my dr. We tried everything from diets to pills to ordering special food. Nothing worked. Then my issues began to worsen. My heart decided that enough was enough and nothing they tried seemed to keep it under control. Through a long talk with my dr, husband, surgeon team and counselor..we decided on RNY. I was 251 the morning I went in. The surgery went fairly well. I didn't use the morphine button but 2 times and was awake and alert. Then the next morning a bruise began to form on my stomach. They took the normal blood count before surgery and repeated it...it was extremely low. Took me back to surgery because I had an artery nicked and bleeding. They repaired the nick and gave me a transfusion. That being said, I have had an amazing recovery. The blood loss was massive and topped on top of a RNY they said I did really well.
My Husband is a soldier and he was supposed to deploy a month after surgery, well orders changed and he left 4 days after I got home from the hospital. I had my kiddos though and they have been my impression. I can go out and play!!! My husband has been gone for the entire recovery and will be home very soon and I can't wait for him to see the new me. I met my goal weight and size!! I am 7 months out and hit the gym 5 days a week. I wear the same size pants that I did when I graduated high school. The dress I wore to graduation fits!! I am so much happier now and feel amazing. I have found my true friends and learned so much about myself.
