My Gift Begins
Well I am going to start my journey. And to be sure I remember I decided to write this to myself to remind of of the work.
I have always struggled with weight. I did dapple in diets but none too very seriously. At 5'10" you can hide weight awhile. In 1997 I was diagnosed with a blood disorder and had to stop smoking. I had smoked since I was about 18/19. Well that started the pounds. over the next 12 years 100 pounds found its way onto me. With that came tummy problems, hiatal hernia, ulcerations, CPAP machine a year ago November.
But the big thing was, Hubby had WLS 2 1/2 years ago. This fact alone is a huge help for me but it was a weird experience too. People who had not seen him in awhile would drool over him and then I would feel their eyes on me......like and why didnt you do it? It was a hard time for awhile dealing with that. I do beleive they need to train the spouse too.
Two years ago we were blessed with a grandson, and since then a grandaughter and another grandson and this Tues I become "Granny Nanny". I can think of no greater joy. My hubby bought me a minivan and life is good. My Mom will come help me during the days after surgery, because poor timing and all, I will have surgery one week after I start my new job.
I really want to be here for the babies, for my kids and for my hubby.
I know there will be challenges and bumps in the roads, but I am ready. Like history it has to be recorded so you can go back and read and learn form it. This is my learning tool.
October 20, 2009 is a gift to myself so I can give to my "others"

The days leading up to your surgery will fly by and soon you'll be wondering, like some of us, "Did my surgeon really do the operation", because you'll feel so good. Your husband will be able to lend you support and remember we are here for you as well. Keep us informed of your progress!

5 days to go
Wow, that seemed to zip by, 5 days to go. I have started making my lists, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, soft bra.....etc. Luckily my Mom went on a weekend getaway so I dont have to deal with her..caring, these last few days prior. This weekend is also the Pumpkin Festival so the house will be busy with Friends and Family, and maybe time will pass quickly.
I have purchased the non fat milk and dry milk, sf puddings, some cream soups, protien drinks. Need to get my meds filled today The Dr puts me on GallBaladder meds and Nexium and pain meds as soon as we get home, so I need to be ready there.
I am getting ready to enjoy this gift!

Ok, surgery is in about 12 hours, just came on to get some last minute courage and good feelings. Everyone on here has been so open and honest and sharing.
I decided to do the 2 day clear liquid diet, Dr only wanted one and nothing after midnight, but my tummy was kinda in knots so I decided to go for 2. Broth, Decaf and Crystal light lemonaide.
Starting today the hospital has banned anyone under 16 years of age from entering the hospital due to the swine flu. So I decided to ban my family, father, mother, daughter and sons too. Just hubby especially the first day....day 2...check with your dad.
Today has been tearful, I am excited but nervous. And I have to admit I am horrible at saying good-bye. I could not even take the grandbabies home, Hubby did that for me, I would have really broken down.
Ok, time to crawl into bed and just rest with nice peaceful thoughts.
In just 12 short hours my gift will begin.

Ellie, I think you are handling all this wonderfully and soon will be chasing those granchildren with glee! Sounds like you are taking good care of yourself and have a supportive husband.
You may not see this before you go in, but godspeed!

Well, by now you are at the hospital and hopefully all is going smoothly for you. Its probably good that you banned everyone from a first day visit. Only my hubby was with me that first day except for a very late night surprise visit from my daughter who just couldn't stay away and had to see me for herself and kiss me. It was like an angel came to bless me. Anyways, once you are home and feeling better, I hope we hear your story and that you recuperate quickly. All the best!
