What a surprise, even after my mindless eating of the cookie, I lost 2.5 lbs last week. Thats a total of 35.5 lbs gone since surgery and 57 since high weight in February 09. Today is the first day of exercise - walking - outside in the cool evening air. I have my new walking shoes all ready and will start with a short walk on flat ground then increase the length of the walk, the speed and add in some streets with hills. Wish me luck!

That mindless thing is a real kick in the butt isn't it? I found myself going nutty last night. My daughter (18 yo) was giving us some fits and I could not turn to food, soda, or smokes . I thought I was for sure going to lose my mind but, hubby pulled me through. I'll let you know tomorrow if the girl lived through tonights family meeting.

Those 18 yr olds can be trying!!! My 4 are all in 20's and 30's now, but I do remember those teen years and wonder sometimes how we all survived. Turning to food to comfort, strengthen, quiet, etc was easy and becoming aware of what exactly goes into our bodies is work, isn't it? Hope the girl lives through it all, and that you and hubby do as well. Do let us know!!!!!

LOL....yep, everyone lived. We all shed a lot of tears, yelled frustrations, and ended the night with giggles and hugs. Our lil family is back to what it should be. Kiddo is just stuck in the really horrible land of not a kid and not a woman ya know.

Thanks for sharing your story, Highlandlass. I hope your depression won't get worse in the winter months. I know of a few women whose mental condition improved after WLS so that's maybe not an exception. Doing little exercise can help a lot, it just keeps you going and active.

Hello all, I am thrilled today because not only have I lost poundage I did the big measurement last night and have lost inches. The boobs are down 3.25 inches; the waist down 2.25 inches; hips down 4 inches; thighs down 4 inches and calf down 1 inch. I knew my smaller sizes were fitting me (even big in some cases) and this is the proof. In pounds I am down 37.5 since the surgery and 59 since beginning my journey in February after a very mild (than the Lord for that) mini stroke. This was my epiphany day - February 1 - when I knew if I didn't take care of myself I would end up paralyzed or worse!!! My G.P. had been warning me for years, but it took a mini-stroke to make his message sink in. Around that time we also found out that I had the Hiatal Hernia making a trip to the surgeon necessary. It was that surgeon, Dr. Smith, who told me that I could be a candidate for bariatric surgery and I jumped at the chance to have the bypass done. As I said earlier, my wait time was not long - 3 months only, because his team of bariatric specialists was awarded Government dollars to do the surgeries here in Ontario instead of sending people out of country. Sometimes I still can't hardly believe that the surgery has been done. I am very happy and feel blessed at the same time. I remember laughing almost hysterically when my G.P. told me that I had a hernia (I had worried terribly that he was going to tell me I had something far worse) and now I know that I must have had a premonition that my future was about to be changed and in a GOOD way!

The doctor told me that after losing some weight I would begin to feel great and become healthier and healthier. Today I got some proof of that.....I am going off my blood pressure meds. Over the years my B.P. has always been way high but today it was 110/75 so, for a week I won't take the Altace and see my doc next week One more pill vial out of my medicine chest!!! No wonder I've been dizzy lately!

Well, things change in a week. I returned to my doc after being off the B.P. meds and the reading was up again, so when I got home I had to add the pills back into the mix that I take daily. On a happier note, I've begun walking all over my neighbourhood for exercise. It was very blustery and windy here in Toronto today and as I hiked, uphill, into the north wind I found I was being blown backwards.....a sure sign that I'm lighter. I used to be the anchor that everyone held on to so they would not be blown away! My hike today was to pick up new glasses - very modern, light and purple! I figured my smaller face needed lighter and more up to date glasses to show me off!!! Am I getting vain? I decided to walk 3 blocks out of my way just to make my trip longer and get in more exercise. The walk home, with the wind at my back, was so much easier. Like an Irish blessing on me!!!! lol

This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend. Since all my kids are married and have in-laws, we celebrated here yesterday with our turkey day feast so they can be at the other homes today! 15 of us (oldest 65 - youngest 8 months) gathered around the table and thankfully ate our wonderful meal. I was able to have about 2 oz of dark meat turkey with a bit of gravy, 2 tbs of mashed garlic potatoes, 1 tbs of corn niblets and for dessert a tiny taste of the pumpkin pie filling and a few bits of the apple from my homemade apple pie. I worried all week that I would not be able to join the rest of the family as they enjoyed the meal, but everything went down just fine. I was completely satisfied with the smaller plate of food and laughed because our 8 month old grandson ate more than me! Today I'll be making a pot of turkey soup and will enjoy that later. To all Canadians reading this - Happy Thanksgiving. I'll send greeting to our American friends in November.
