Eating out nightmare.
All you folks that have had your surgeries that now have really tiny tummies....know about the Eating out nightmare.
Let me tell you about mine.........
I love buffets,(way back when) they got all those salads and meats that are sooooooooo good.
You can pile your plate so high and go back for MORE.....problem is, NO to go boxes, You EAT what you take!!!!
I have not eaten at a Buffet for 35 years...........can't do it. No way can I pay $10.00(or more now) for a buffet meal and only eat 4 oz. of food.
Oh what I would give to have a Go box.
I've tried it.........eat a little, go puck it, come back eat a little more go puck it, and so it goes, going to get my moneys worth no matter what.
That brings up the next problem of eating out at a buffet...finding privacy in the restroom to do the throwing up without being noticed.
For me it just about applies to anywhere I want to eat out.
I Love Applebees.....Oh sure I can get a GO BOX but just try reheating that stuff the next day to eat.......it is totally nasty. It cost a lot to eat there and for me it is a total waste of money.
Anyway....Its just something that I was thinking about and wondered if any of you can relate?

So to make sure I understand this, you are eating to the point of knowing that it's too much and making your throw up to get your money's worth out of the meal?

My question is this....are you missing eating so much that you are eating at the buffet and then making yourself sick and then going back for more...so that you feel like you ate more??

I usually don't go to buffets anymore since I know I can't eat enough to make it worth the money. Although some buffets will let you pay the child's price if you have had WLS. There are little cards you can get that your doctor signs and you use it to prove you've had WLS and they will let you pay the child's price. I also got one Chinese buffet to let me take home a to-go box even though they usually don't let you do that. I just asked the manager if I could since I could only eat a couple ounces of food at the time, and he said sure. But the only reason I went to that Chinese buffet in the first place is because I was out of town visiting my mother and stepfather and that's where they decided to go.
I do eat out on a fairly regular basis. Often a couple times a week. We used to eat out almost every day, so I have really cut back. But what I do is either order a regular dinner and take home leftover (depends on what you order - some stuff reheats very well the next day, some stuff doesn't) or else I order a side dish like a side salad or a cup of soup. If I just eat a salad or a cup of soup, I know I'm not getting much protein and will have to make up for it later, and I do.
One time I did dump in a restaurant, and it was no fun at all. But that usually doesn't happen and I don't really worry about it or let it keep me from eating out.

No, I'm saying I don't eat out because of the nightmare it can cause for me.
I've been in a few positions over the years where I've been to buffets to eat...family gathering, job gatherings and the like.
I feel it is just such a cheat for me to eat at these places.
I, like many of you want to eat out, but its too hard for me.
I'm just saying I DON'T eat out(even tho I'd like to) because for me it is a
nightmare!
I just thought it might be hard for YOU(collective you) also.

Do you mind to clarify this? I was thinking what Airforcewife was thinking. Can you help us understand?
Also, I eat out because that's part of my social life. I have found that ordering a fajita with double beans and no rice is the perfect eating out food. I nibble on it, get a take home box and reheat until it's gone. It reheats great! Other than that, I just order protein (usually chicken -- and hope it's moist) and veggie and take home what's left so I don't feel so guilty. I usually try to reheat, not always successfully.
I have been to a Chinese buffet since my surgery. It is a waste of money, but I look at it this way -- I can get exactly what I want. I don't have to worry about the waitress getting my order correct -- I just go to the bar, get the chicken on a stick (or whatever) some veggies and eat. This isn't about getting my money's worth anymore. It's about treating my body with respect. Clumping or dumping isn't worth any amount of "getting my money's worth" besides -- I'm worth it! (and so are you).

Eating out is a social thing for me, too. Our family often gets together at restaurants. I would say almost every weekend. So I go, too. I don't eat meat and not all restuarants have really good choices for me. I just do the best I can. I don't always get much protein, depending on the restaurant and what vegetarian options they have, but if I don't, then I just have a protein shake later when I get home. And I enjoy the company and the conversation and have a good time.
I'm sorry it's a nightmare for you, floogie. Are you throwing up on everything you eat?

Eating out a social thing for me as well. The DH and I don't do it much at home but when we visit my in laws in Dallas we always eat out. Soup is always an option for me if I can't find anything else I can eat. I try as much as I can to reheat left overs. We went to one Chinese buffet that does a to go option by the weight. So the manager let me get a container and eat there using the to go container. My dinner came to a whopping $2.27 lol.
Try not to let it stress you out and try to enjoy the social aspect of it. If you need to make up your protein later, you can always do that. Money is just money, and trust me I do not say that lightly since we don't have any lol, but it's about doing what's best for ourselves and our bodies.
