Josephine,

I too definitely think you should ask you doctor all the questions you have before your surgery. I think I would print them out and bring them with you too. Just in case you get nervous you might forget something.

I just hope and pray what happened to me doesn't happen to you. My surgery was scheduled for the first one of the day, but when I got there and all prepped and taken back away from husband in a room all by myself...they told me it would be a little longer because he was finishing up a case???? He had squeezed in a hernia operation before me. I was fine with, but still thought I would see him before the surgery. Well, they wheeled me into the OR and I was still thinking I would see him. Now I didn't have any questions for him, but still I would have like to have seen...to know it was him doing the surgery.

I remember waking up in my room...the first thing I asked my husband was "did you ever see Dr. Felix" He said "yes, he came out after and told me everything went well".

Anyway what I am trying to say here is just make sure you get to talk to him. If you say you really need to...they have to let you.

Good Luck tomorrow. I will be praying that all goes well.

Best of Luck on your surgery!

Please address ALL of your concerns with the Doctor before your procedure. If you do wind up getting postponed it will be for the best in the long run!

Okay guys! I've printed out my list of questions and I'll just let him read them and take them with him, so he's sure to remember my wishes. We leave in about an hour. My mouth is so dry! I guess it's from those pills that get rid of the stomach acid but omg, major cotton mouth. I just keep getting a mouthful of water, swishing, and spitting it out.

It's me.

We checked in no problems. No waiting.
They took blood no problems. No waiting.
We had to wait for a lady to take us upstairs. She came within like 30 seconds lol.
Then we had to wait for the physical therapist to talk to us. He came to us within 2 minutes.

Everything was going great and everyone was SO fricken nice! We were laughing and having a good time.

Then we waited a bit for the nurse. She was a really nice lady and we were having a great talk and filling out paperwork when Dr Janssen came into the room in scrubs.

He said that this surgery (removal of lap band and replaced with RNY) really needs to have two good surgeons there to do it together because it's such a long surgery. To provide the best amount of care, they only do it with both surgeons there in the OR.

One of the surgeons is sick today, so my surgery was postponed. They made an appointment for me to come talk to Dr Janssen for September 21, 2009 because it's been so long since we talked and he wanted to make sure we're on the same page still re: RNY or Duodenal Switch. After that meeting he'll go ahead and schedule me for surgery and I'll get a date. I think it's so hard because both surgeons need to coordinate their schedules. If I'm lucky this is only a 3 week delay. If I'm very unlucky it could be 6-8 weeks before their schedules mesh again.

I am devestated. I cried for about 20 minutes. The nurse comforted me, reassured me, told me she understands how bad it is to live with pain, and ended up giving me a sedative.

The biggest blow of all of this is that I have 3 types of pain medication.

Weed - Can't use it often because it makes me anxious and makes me eat and gain weight.
Lyrica - Had to stop using it because it was making me crazy because of the ulcer.
Oxycontin - Was my primary form of pain killer over the last 2 weeks while dealing with the ulcer.

Oviously I ran out of pain pills a few days early. I don't have ANY. Took my last one this morning at the hospital. I was depending on the pain pump and the prescription I'd be sent home with to get me thru til I could pick up my oxy prescription. So I wasn't crying because of the surgery being postponed. I was crying because I don't have any pain meds and my PCP is a dick that doesn't ever want to give them to me when I need them a few days early. I'm just so tired. I can't do this anymore. Why do I have to suffer so long with this FUCKING PLASTIC INSIDE OF ME MAKING ME SICK??? It's just not right! I'm not mad at my surgeon. He's only doing what he thinks is the best for my care, and that of his other patients. He can't bump someone who's been waiting longer than me.

I have to stop now cause I'm crying again. I don't wanna get worked up. I'm just going to go lay down and hope for the best. I hope this doesn't mess up getting to go to America for Christmas.

I'm waiting on my PCP to call back to see if he's going to give me my pain pills 3 days early or if I'm gonna have to go sit in his office and cry all day til he gives in. I will do it too. Ain't got nothing better to do.
