I love that my doc lets me take an active role in my health! She listens, gives me options, and together we come up with a plan. I think it's really important to have that type of relationship. My bariatric surgeon is the first male doctor I've ever had and that's been a big step for me. Even my pediatrician was a female!

Guys never totally listen to us do they??!!

Happy surgiversary!!

I think that is really, really important. I know some people probably don't want to take such an active role, some people just want to go to the doctor and have the doctor tell them what to do. If that works for you, then that's fine. But I think in general people are going to be healthier and more compliant with treatment and stuff if they are taking an active role in their own care. And I really have stopped seeing doctors in the past when they have not wanted me to take an active role. Actually, I've been known to go in and interview doctors before deciding if I am going to see them or not. If they balk at being interviewed, then I know they are not going to be the right doctor for me. But you know, we are hiring them to do a job for us. We are employing them. You interview employees, right?

Exactly! And with your health being the center of the issue, I don't think any doctor should balk at an interview. I think I would be the same though anymore and not go to someone who didn't want me to be a part of the process. It is my body and my health! HELLO??!!

Don't forget to take pics on your surgiversary! =)

I remember you said you dump. Wouldn't want you to spend your first surgiversary on the bathroom floor!

Maybe celebrating by doing something you couldn't do this time last year (or wouldn't) would be better? I've asked my husband if we couldn't go dancing for my onederland 'treat'. I have a long way to go for that, but it definetly something to look forward too!

Or perhaps visiting your doctor's WLS patients that are just going in. They would probably LOVE to talk to someone who is one year out and you have had so much success. I know I find a lot of support and comfort in your stories.

This is a pet peeve of mine. I recently left my gyn office because of bad customer service, including typical hour-long waits (I just blogged about my horrifying experience at the new gyn office if you're remotely interested). I think doctor's offices don't really think of patients as customers and therefor just really don't care how crappy they treat you. I was so annoyed by the old gyn's office (not the doctor herself, mind you, the rest of the practice) because they called me to reschedule from 3:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and I accommodated them. I didn't get back to the exam room until nearly 4:00pm. It was another 45 minutes before I actually saw the doctor.

Either scheduling is way more complicated than I can comprehend or they're just generally terrible and don't care about wasting your time. Hmph!

Ok, that's enough venting!
