Hi,
My name is Nancy and I had the RNY gastric by pass surgery on 7/20/2009 and i have had problem after problem, i have this problem with burping non stop all the time, and to boot i am still hungry, i get the hunger pains and all...i dont know what to do they tell me that it is in my head. I have lost weight. I started my liquid diet on 7/6/09 and since then to now i have lost 39.1 lbs. Any advice or help would be well accepted and appreciated.

Don't regret it. Think about it, you have lost 40lbs that you wouldn't have been able to lose in 2 months. That is a huge accomplishment in itself. You should be proud of yourself. As far as the hunger, it is probably mostly head-hunger. I tend to buy food and not even eat it, it's bad.
What are you able to eat now? Maybe you arent getting enough food in to satisfy you?

On the bright side if you are burping at least the gas is coming out and not causing you pain. I live on GasX because I can't burp and when I can, it's heaven! LOL.
I went through the hunger thing too hun. I had my surgery about a week before you. I still have "hungry" days where I eat a little more and then days where I barely want food at all. It balances itself out. It's your body adjusting. Stop and think about how and what you used to eat pre-op. It's a drastic difference.

I think it's pretty normal to have some regrets after the surgery. We call it buyer's remorse. Happens to lots of us. Chances are, in time, you will be glad you did it. I know that doesn't help much right now, though. But you just have to get through this hard time.
Some people have no hunger for a long time after a gastric bypass, but some do have hunger right away. Maybe it's real hunger, maybe it's head hunger, maybe it's some of both. Whatever it is, it's no fun to be hungry. Are you drinking a lot? That will help some. Are you getting your protein in? Protein will help you feel full and stay feeling full longer. I would guess that by now you are on solid foods? That should help you feel full more and longer than when you were just on liquids.

yeah totally! I mean geesh look at the weight you lost, minimize what you medical problems you may gain by concentrating on how much weight you've lost
I did the same thing. Lower my expectations of what healthy is and concentrate on the weight loss.
chente143, what has your doctor said about your burping? Do whatever you need to in order to have wonderful post op care.

Chente-
You should be consulting with your nutritionist about the still feeling hungry part. I deal with that, too and it scares me sometime. I don't want to reverse my progress.
As for feeling regret, I think it is pretty common to go through a period of that. If you are continuing to have issues that are real cause for concern and regret (I did not-it was just that grieving/letting go of food process that caused my regret), you need to be consulting with your surgeon to make sure there are not issues that can be resolved. Good luck to you~

read your post. I too had feelings of hunger it took about 4 months for my brain to catch up with what my body was doing. Burping and not being able to guzzle water was HELL!
Read my Diary "Messinger's Diary, the first few months of posts sound liek what your going through. It get's better!
