we have a vhs player - it rarely gets used. it acts as a cushion between the digital cable box and the dvd player. Fortunately future brother in law has the apparatus to convert vhs to dvd - providing me with the only videos of my childhood (originally taken on super 8 and converted to VHS).

I'm going through a purging stage. I feel like I'm going overboard in some ways and feeling like not going far enough in others. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Case in point: the silver button down shirt.
Long sleeves, collar, slippery material. sort of silver with black irridescence. An unusual shirt to find, but comes in useful sometimes. Do I lose it? Is it worth keeping in the millieu of clothing belonging to a woman nearing 40? Should it be relegated to a thrift store so that a woman who needs it (and may have more use for it) can find it? Will a future child or niece want it? What about my giant platform silk china sandals? Mr. R hates them and I feel like they are very sexy. So not sure - do they stay or do they go?

I could potentially wear them...at some point. But would I want to do that or do I want to go find something I really like...?

I don't know...

Default Gone in 365 days

I know women think about things differently, but for me if I dont wear something in a year, it's gone. If intend to NEVER wear it again...gone! That means if it is too big, it goes immediately to the Starvation Army rack.

There is something psychological about that too. When I shrink out of something, getting it out of my closet means (in my brain) that Im planning NEVER to go back to that weight. I always SAVED clothes before in case I gained the weight back.

I cant stand having clothes in my closet that I dont wear.

I need to be more like you, Av. I am getting better. I ended up tossing the silver shirt AND the shoes (if I find them sexy and Mr. R doesn't, then what is the point? Plus, they are like 10 years old now). I have 4 bags of clothes sitting in the closet. We live about two blocks away from a goodwill, so I have these great intentions of taking a bag over every time I take Star for a walk...but I keep forgetting.

One of the door people in our building is from the Phillipines and she has already told me that any shoes I want to get rid of she'll take and send home. She's been off since Thursday so I can't give her my two bags of shoes.

And these are just the clothes that are too big to fit me now - let's not even talk about where I'll be in another 6 months. It is sort of fun to shed the stuff. I think one of the most freeing things in my life was getting rid of a bunch of crap so I could fit everything into my pickup to move cross country. Really cut down on my crap. I feel like I have to constantly cull things...but I'm sort of bad at it.

For some silly reason I just now realized that you had your WLS 3 days before me.

As I got dressed for work today NONE of my 'old' shirts fit. It is so rough sometimes. I need to purge again.

As a side note, I would have dressed up for that meeting too. I mean just to be on the safe side, but now you know you don't have to for future meetings.

Default Hey...

I like the new avatar Suzanne. Very nice. I went to your profile to see if you have posted more pics. Nope...

OK, then, when?

Im headed to Bombay, India on the 19th and will be taking a soft sided duffel full of old clothes - mine and Bone's. Now I dont know which people in the land of tiny starving beggars is goining to be able to fit into the clothes of a 6-1 (formerly) 310lb American, but that is someone else's chore to worry about. Whenever I walk down the street there I feel like Goliath towering head and shoulders above everyone. Funny...

Oh my goodness - we did have surgery 3 days apart! You are doing really well! Congratulations. Right now I'm sort of stuck in the 260s. I think it happens when my body reaches one of it's "setpoints." Takes a bit to overcome - I expect it'll happen again in the 240s.

As for shirts, I have this one shirt, you can see it in my photos - the white blousy thing. I like it because it covers my belly, which is still prominent, but it's a 26/28 and it's too big and I really need to get rid of it. I have lots of shirts from when I was on my way up, but I don't feel like any of them are long enough. I have to learn to deal with that - oh yeah, and keep losing weight!

Next week I am wearing my denim wrap around dress (it's almost 10 years old now, but I still love it and it fits again!!!!). I don't like the way I look in jeans (never really have), so I'll just skip those. I think I have a denim skirt somewhere...must be in my 20/22 clothes box.

Thanks Avi! I got new glasses and wanted to take a picture. I was pretty happy with it so I decided to post it. It's just a camera phone pic so the color is weird and for some reason when I put it on here my forehead looks GIGANTIC! I'm going to take pictures again in June. I like to wait to get the maximum impact of the change.

India sounds cool. My cousin spent a couple of months there doing training for her work. It sounds like fun, but a little daunting. I understand the poverty there can be overwhelming to see. I love to travel, though. Have you been there before?

*************************
I'm feeling a little bummed that I'm not losing weight faster. I'm proud of myself though, since Sunday I've gotten up every morning to go the gym. I think that, along with Star's walks, it'll really make a difference in my weight loss/size loss. I hope at least.

That is one of the great benefits of this surgery. I think that last time I went through a big weight loss when I hit about 260 is when I joined the gym and really had the energy to go. I so want to lose 100 lbs before my wedding in October. I think that's possible, but I'd love to lose 75 lbs by my birthday (May 25) and I'd love to be under 200 by the wedding. I'm not sure that's possible, I'm just trying to go with it though and do what I can to be successful.

I posted in another thread that my cravings are getting smaller - I think that's true. I used to crave a big mac and fries...now I'd like to be able to eat a McDonald's cheeseburger. I used to want to eat half a pizza...now I'd like to eat an entire slice (not just the toppings!). I'd still like to eat a whole burrito, but that's pretty impossible. I'd probably settle for one of those nasty frozen ones...mmmmmm...frozen burrito....

Work has been very hectic, which makes me glad that I'm doing the workout thing. One of the really nice things about working from home is that, when I need to, I can take an afternoon nap. One of the sucky things is that I'm always at the computer and it's hard to get away.

Ah an afternoon nap. What I wouldn't give for one of those right now!

Thanks for the compliment on my loss so far, I believe it has come to a slowed down point. BUT I am still losing. If I were to get my butt to the gym more often, that may help in that department. I like going, however there seems to be so much other things that are more important. I guess I need to re-focus.

I also like the new picture, I meant to comment on that the other day, however I was in and out like lightning and forgot.

What do you do that you are able to work from home? I am heading to Japan in July and would love to be able to do something from home over there, and for when we come back in 2 years also.

I finally went to Ross the other day after I complained about my clothing choices. I bought 1 smaller size jeans, 1 smaller jean capris (first since WLS) 1 black capris for work, and several shirts. They have an alright selection, and I can get outa there for pretty cheap comparing to what I used to spend on clothes. That is really the only place I can see myself shopping as far as new clothes go.

Your goals are realistic I believe, especially before the wedding. There shouldn't be a problem getting down to where you want to be.

I have been craving a big fat Big Mac! I think I would die if I tried to eat it though. Last night we had sushi and for the first time since WLS I was able to eat a (couple) whole sushi rolls instead of just picking the crab out. AND YUMMY! WOW did that hit the spot. I was excited about that. Now I just need to find a place that will make it without the rice, or half the rice. They should do that if I ask right?

Hope you are having an AWESOME FRIDAY!

Ok, now for a page out of Baja's stand up routine: For maximum impact try wearing a thong next time you go for pics to post up here.

And yes, I've been to India many times and for many years. The funny photo in Aviator's Log Book was taken in 1985 while in India.

And Foxy - quit that talk about Big Macs. No bueno por caca.

LOL Avi! Yeah...that would get a BIG reaction...and probably not one that I particularly want.

I can't find the photo in your logbook...what page is it on? or a link?

Thanks for the compliment on the photo!

I'm a Proposal Writer for a software company. It's challenging with lots of deadlines, but I like it. I really like working from home. You can do almost anything from home as long as you have an agreeable boss. Well, probably not being a receptionist.

I love Ross! I have made some really good finds there - and some really bad ones (like the multi-layer yellow chiffon cha-cha dress...but it was only $10!). That is the great thing, though - everything is usually pretty cheap and they have a decent size range. I once got a pair of doc marten boots there for 2.49. I still have them. They're back in style now so I can wear them.

I also need some new shirts. I have a bunch of them that are too big now and a bunch that are 18/20. Unfortunately, my top will fit into an 18/20 (barely) but my bootay will not.

I will post more later, but I've got to run! We're going to go see the new Star Trek! Even though I'm not a big fan, I'm excited because it looks really good.

ciao!

Enjoy Star Trek, I am not a "Tecky" but I LOVED it! You'll have to let me know what you thought.

I bought a size 20 jeans, capris etc well all the bottoms and although the jeans are snug, that means I went from a 22 to a 20 in a month. Thats pretty neat. It is also neat to see how clothes (especially the snug 20's) smooth down my hips.

I also have to tell you a funny that happend to me the other day. Hubby and I were moving stuff and I put my hands on my 'hips' and was like "Um, what is this? Honey feel this...." He was like "That is your hip bones, haven't you ever felt them before?" I laughed and said "Well, yeah, like 10 years ago!" I felt so dumb, but I was so shocked that I could feel them, I didn't know what else to say!

Doc Martins ROCK! I have a pair that I love so much, they are brown and I used them for riding the Harley until I got my Harley boots so they are scratched, but my fav for sure. 2.49 is a great price!

Your job sounds important. LOL. I currently manage apartments, and although most could be done via home, leasing the apartments might prove to be a challenge from home. My goal is to get a job I can do from home especially once we return, so we can start a family and I can be home with them.

Okay I am headed out of work and to Fry's to pick up some cable for a crashed hard drive. My honey-do for the day.
