Foxy, I totally agree about October!

It is the nicest month here - you can usually count on an Indian Summer and really pleasant weather. And happy upcoming 5 year anniversary!
Ceecee, your daughter's location looks just lovely! So beautiful and green. How many people are you inviting?
My sister in law is going to make my dress from a vintage pattern I found. I think it's the perfect meeting between Jackie Kennedy and Lucy Arnez. It has a basque neck, empire waist and a skirt that flares out at the bottom. It's tea length. I've picked out a fabric I like with a pinkish lace to overlay.
Otherwise, my colors are black and ivory. I thought and thought about what colors I wanted - I'm *really* bad at colors and decorating (outfits I can choose, interior design, not so much), so I debated over that for a while...then I saw a wedding magazine where everything was black and white and I just LOVED it. We might throw in some lavender accents here and there.
I'm letting my maid of honor and bridesmaid pick their own dresses - as long as they are black, it's cool with me. My BM (sister in law) is younger and is going for strapless and short, while my best friend (maid of honor) will get something longer (she hates her knees). I started to try to pick stuff out at David's Bridal and then I saw how much they cost PLUS alterations and some of them you can't even try on because they have to be special ordered (and thus paid for in advance). I figured it wasn't worth it and decided to just let them pick their own stuff.
I do have to pick dresses for my 3 nieces - all of whom I have promised will be in the wedding. They are 12 and two 9s. We went to Alfred Angelo to see some flower girl dresses, but they were also very expensive. I don't want to make anyone get anything they'll only wear once AND costs a lot. Plus, I wasn't very happy with the sales staff at AA. The 12 year old will be harder to fit. She wants to dress like she's 22, but I'm determined to put her in something that is at least somewhat modest - and maybe make her wear flats since she's already taller that both my bridesmaid and my MOH (she's growing so fast - she better not pass me up before the wedding!).
I'm trying to encourage my mom to get a black or silver suit. She looks best in tailored suits. David's Bridal has a nice one, but I'm not sure she'll go with it - they are pretty comfortable financially, but she doesn't like to spend money on herself!
Mr. R's aunt is doing the flowers - I want to stick with mostly stargazer lillies and tiger lillies. I like cala lillies too, but they are so expensive and I really wanted something a little bigger.
Our caterer is AWESOME! We had a pretty long selection process and she won. I was teetering between her and a local restaurant, and even though she is more expensive, she provides enough services that she is essentially a "day of" coordinator. My cousin hired a wedding coordinator, but they are SO EXPENSIVE here! At least $3k. For some of them $3k gets you the day of services ONLY! So I figured that I would rely upon my skills that I gathered coordinating events as an Admin Assistant and do my best. That website

Wow, this post got really long. Still avoiding work.
But, here is a blessing - my cousins (who live about 2 hours away) have been so supportive and sweet! They are throwing my bridal shower (my maid of honor lives in CT and my bridesmaid lives in San Diego) and just being really supportive and sweet. I love them so much - I really wasn't expecting people to be so kind and generous with their time. I am so grateful! I wish my sister were still alive so I could complain to her (and make her help me!). I know she'll be with us all in spirit, though.
Tell me more about your daughter's plans. And foxy, I want to hear more about your wedding (well, what you remember). The photographers are trying to talk me into the videotaping the wedding, but it seems almost morbid to me. I mean, you don't really watch those things unless you're wanting to see someone who died. After my sister died her husband watched the wedding video over and over.
How many attendants? Colors? Invitations? Music? She's so lucky that you are doing the cooking!!! Catering is our biggest cost!!!
