Amazing!

Doing brain surgery on the inside of yer noggin?
Congratulations on beginning your "residency" there Dr. Marc! (That part might take a little longer than sprinting but YMMV).

And you committing to being that ONE guy who sticks around us hens here?
You trend-setter you!

Hey Marc,

I had my surgery yesterday! It was successful and I'm feeling great. I've been sipping on water, sugar free G2 and sugar free Jello. I need to add more to the mix. Any suggestions?

I think that your being able to tell your story helps keep you on track and honest with yourself. I'm thinking of following your suggestion and starting my own blog.

I was really glad to wake up in the recovery room and have the staff confirm that the lap band was put in (my last visit, they found a tumor). So I'm on my way now. I really crave a nice cheeseburger and such. I get full though with small amounts of liquid though - weird!

I look forward to your next update!

Zhachary, go back to my first months of posts...maybe it will help you.

The first month for me was NOT pleasent...now I look back and think its all worth it! The gas was bad for me, and my brain wanted to eat everything, but my body couldn't handle it. It took me I think about 2.5 months to retrain my brain. Now when the kids and wife eat, Pizza, burgers, shakes and brownies..I can pass it right by,,for the most part. It will take awhile.
DEFINATELY start your own journal..I'll be you first person to subscribe. You have to write what your going through to keep yourself honest and it will certinaly help you to review for your brain and body.

Biggest suggest...take pictures of yourself, I do it with my shirt off as motivation for myself...as my Man Boobs make me push myself harder to eliminate em...by posting pictures of that I have to be honest of my progress and makes me work harder. Pictures are great....if you have a cam on computer you can also take a daily picture of your face at My Mugshow or mughshot .com. You won't believe the different in your face daily as it changes the first month. So let me know when you have a journal!

Default 5 months plus a week.

Well its been 5 months plus a week. Been a while since I've been on here but been taking some family time in August, out of the 23 days in August I have taken off 10 days. Time to get back to work and try to make some $$ once again.

5 month plus a week update. Stuck at 236. 8 days ago I was at 236. Thougth I'd lose some weight this past week. Went to our cottage for 7 days, swam every day 40 minutes to one hour. Swam across the big lake a few times. "That should help me lose weight!" I thought. Well Funny how easy it is to get into old habits.

da lake

Getting on the scale this morning after 7 days at the cottage I didnt' gain any weight but I didn't lose any either. How could this be I asked myself this morning...so I thought well, let's get back into my old routines and break my bank of bad habits. So I went running this morning, not as fast, more out of breath, but I did it.

As I was running I thought. Boy, on vacation did I drink 110 oz's a day? hmmm wasnt really keep track.

Did I eat 105 grams of protein a day?...hmmm well including the Pure Protein bars and daily unjury maybe I got some in..but what else did I eat?

It came back to me...well a couple handfuls of popcorn won't hurt, Well the wife and kids having ice cream every night,,I'll just help myself to one two or 3 large spoonfuls..(probably a cup in those few bites). Oh and those cookies they got from the local bakery! I had some of that too didn't I? Not my best week by far. Back to boring basics that seem to work.

So today, the day after I'm back and ready to re-enter the world, paying bills, work, shuffling our kids, getting ready for back to school. Today I'm back to basics, 110 oz's of fluid every day, 105 grams of protein every day, excercise every day. A week from now I'll post and see if we can break that 236lb marker.

I still haven't come up with a goal weight. At 216 lbs I will have lost 100 lbs since my highest weight in February, At 206 lbs I will have lost 100 lbs since my surgery. Could I ACTUALLY get to 200 lbs? Hmm not sure yet.

Here are my monthly updated before and current pictures

Default I want a MALT

Wife and kids had Malts tonight..had to leave the room or I woulda cracked.

I don't understand it...been eating perfect this week. 120 oz's of water/crystal light/ powerade zero EVERY day, 110 oz's LEAN protein fish, shrimp unjury EVERY day.

Nothing bad except for shelled peanuts as a snack

But weight has gone up by a 1.5 lbs this week! Water weight? Muscle build?

Was 236 before I went on vacaiton 2 weeks ago. The week of vacation I stayed at 236 lbs adn now this week with eating better, drinking better, running 3 miles - 4 times this week I showed on the scale 237.5! WTF!

I'm hoping its just another plateau...but those seem to be coming more regular now. I know you have a great window to lose weight the first 5-9 months... perhaps I've hit that wall where it gets even harder?

Been so hard, having to be So absolutely strict with myself, excercising almost every day and yet hit another wall!

Grrr. Tomorrow will be my official weekly weigh in see if maybe over night I can lose some weight.

I do have to admit though that my tummy is getting a little smaller in last 2 weeks in the mirror I can see some sagging lifting up more and pants are getting very loose (2nd set Ive bought) almost time to go down another pants size.

Also in last 3 days, my wedding ring now slips on my finger, watch is too big for my wrist now (My pride and Joy CITIZEN Aerial watch) as it slides upside down on wrist.. none of that was happening 2 weeks ago...so is it just shifting? Weird but I WANT scale movement!!!

It goes against what we think w know deep down, but you may have to wonder if you are not losing because you are not taking IN enough. With your exercising, your body may not be getting enough nutrition and may be holding on to what it has because it is not being fed enough. Any chance? Maybe you need to up your protein intake? What does your nutritionist say?

Hey marc-me again. I just took a few mins to read some of your blog from the beginning. It is so helpful to hear your story and to learn from it. You are a good writer, too.

You really should be consulting with a nutritionist if you aren't already to make sure you have a good strategy in place. I am surprised some of the more vocal TTers didnt jump on board, but there is no way in the world you should have been eating solids in those first couple of weeks. I know you were pureeing them but the coventional WLS diet starts w a week of clear liquids, a week of "full" liquids-such as milk, soy milk, pureed soups, a week or two of soft foods-yogurts, cottage cheeses, scrambled eggs, pureed other things. You came out of the gate hard. It also sounds like you definitely had/have milk or lactose intolerances so that could make things harder. I get in my protein without doing milk (I do do Greek yogurts which are really high in protein). I also notice no one ever pointed out but the gas in your system post surgery needs to dissipte through movement more than through farting. It is a different gas issue so hoping to belch it/fart it out had to be very frustrating.

You have tackled weight loss/management all your life with a commitment unlike any I've ever known to have made. Your commitment to your good health is amazing and a great example for the rest of us. I dont' think there are many who could have ever gone at it so relentlessly. Bravo for you. IF anyone had the right to WLS, if anyone could say they had truly given it every best effort, you are the one. You really might want to consider some time with a nutritionist to stay on top of your game; you deserve this to be totally successful.

PS. Your lake looks gorgeous. Can't bel;ieve you swim across it! Enjoy!

Default Kind Words

Ardita, thanks for the kinds words...and about the Lake, yes my favorite place in the world and swimming across it (almost a mile across) is one of my FAVORITE THINGS to do! 32 minutes of nothing but liquid immersion.

I may give the nutritionist a try. I have been eating pretty much what I would consider like a machine, shrimp, tilapia, eggs, Unjury. 120 oz's no calorie no carbonation beverage a day, and 110 grams lean protien a day.

Don't think I could do much better then that..but maybe with the excercise I do I should be taking in more. AT one time I heard you should take in one gram of protien for every lbs you way (ideal body size) that would be 190 grams of protein a day for me! a lot.

Time for the Nutritionist maybe.

And the scale..drum roll please Friday morning weigh in 236.5. NO movement for 2 weeks now! GRRRRRSSSSSGGGG!
