Default Bama's Story

My real name is Travis and my journey started on March 19th, 1992. That is the day my 40 year old father dropped dead of a heart attack. I have always struggled with my weight. As I get older and closer to 40 I realize how short of a life that is.

I have two precious girls and want to be around to see them grow up. I have high blood pressure which got doubled in October when I turned 30. I have already done my seminar and got my physical yesterday. My doctor said I have enlarged heart and he put me on chelestrol meds on top of my bp meds.

I will use this thread to keep everyone posted on my journey.

Default Welcome Bama

Hi Travis, glad you've joined here and that you're going to find a HUGE amount of information, encouragement and support here. You'll find many here who love to help others succeed, and also get a swift kick sometimes when you are making choices that aren't so smart.

There are so many people here, great people, and I hope you find that out for yourself while you're here.

Congratulations for making a huge step toward finding the person there inside you, the healthy one that's been hiding until you're able to do what it takes to change and find that real you emerge from under that weight you've carried for so long.

Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement. I quickly learned this sight is a God sent. I have told the SWL coordinator at the medical center I am using.

Hi Travis,
You've found a community here of folks who have walked a similar path in life. You're so brave to take these steps for your girls. In a year, you won't believe the changes in your life! Congratulations on making such a life changing decision. I'm sorry you lost your father when he was so young. Hopefully this change in your life will give you many happy years with your family. WELCOME!

Travis,

My family is riddled with heart disease and diabetes, so I can relate to losing loved ones too soon. And, the fear of it happening to me! That's why I'm here, too.
I just know my mom would have done something like this if she would have had the options back then...she loved being around to take in all the stray kids, and love on grandbabies!
We're offered an opportunity...isn't that great?! I never dreamed of being thin! And, now, after having diabetes since I was 33, and high bp etc etc...I thought I had a death sentence.
It can be a tough road to surgery approval, and then all the adjustments around this procedure, but just look at those little girls, and keep tapped in here, and push thru it!
Good to have you here!
Patty

Just wanted to let everyone know my psych evaluation is monday at 2 p.m.

The best I can tell, this will be my last step and then my case goes to the surgeon. After they approve it, then insurance (no six month diet) and hopefully a date. Wish me luck.
