My first week post-op is behind me. THANK GOODNESS!!!!! I NEVER DREAMED that first week would be filled with so many ups and downs. I now offically understand why they call it "hell week." WOW!

On, monday (3 days post-op) I had a serious bout with depression that afternoon and into tuesday. Good ol' buyers remorse I guess. Thankfully that didn't last long. My wife bringing home pizza didn't help, but it was me and not her.

Tuesday and Wednesday got better. I just couldn't stomach the liquids anymore and they allowed me to advance to puree foods. Glory! I ate that first egg and thought I wouldn't trade this for a ribeye, for anything. Since then I have advanced to almost all puree foods-eggs, refried beans, etc... It has helped me feel more human and played a major role in my mental recovery.

An unexpected problem I ran into was severe back pain. I guess it was from the surgery and then lying around but it really knocked me back in my recovery. I could hardly move wednesday and thursday. My PCP called me in a muscle relaxer and it has helped tremendously. Thursday afternoon I was able to walk again

Friday rolled around ( 1 week post-op) and I can't believe the difference in how I feel. I was basically out and about all day. I started driving again and went to the post office and bank. Then I helped get our ball field ready for our friday night games. I still have to rest during the day, but that's ok. I'm just thankful I have a job that will allow me to do that. After my nap I went and worked our concession stand that night. In my head I could eat everything in there but physically I don't want anything.

My follow-up is monday and I hope things will be good. I haven't been perfect but I have tried to follow the rules. I finally got the sipping down, now I need to work on building up my protien. I'm not too worried about it. I know it will come. I can honestly say that surgery related- I have had no pain. My incesions doesn't hurt, my internal incesions doesn't hurt. I would say I'm more sore than anything. I have picked Thursday as my weigh-in day and I weighed in at 289. Since starting my liquids on April 21 I have lost 28 lbs.

Way to go Bama!!!! *applause. Each day is a little easier than the last. I remember 1 and 2 weeks out,kinda....before ya know it, it will all be routine. Life before WLS will seem surreal, mine did. It seemed like a bad memory or a partially remembered dream. I dont want to forget the past in fear of making the same mistakes over. They werent the good ol days though and part of me wishes I could forget them.
Congrats Bama. In no time these will be the good ol days Sco

Last Night I was stupid. I took my wife out for mother's day supper and we went to gondola's for supper. It'a an Italian resturant and I was afraid it would be tough to find something to eat. I ordered some chicken while she got "White Lasagna". It was covered in about 3 cheeses stuffed with roccata cheese, etc... I kept looking at her plate and temptation was too much. I nibbled off her plate about 8 times. I knew it was a bad idea but kept doing it.

About an hour later I felt horrible. I was soo sick and my heart was racing. I know it was dumping syndrome. I felt better about an hour or two later. Truth be told, I'm glad it happened. I am too early to be doing that and it shouldn't be happening anyway. It was a tough lesson learned but a good one.
