So, I'm really wavering on whether I'm gonna go to my 15 year H.S. reunion. First of all, I'm sure it's not going to be very exciting, it's at some local crap bar/restaurant...just wouldn't be my first choice. It's two parts - the bar/drinking thing Saturday and then a family picnic Sunday. I refuse to go to the picnic b/c it's just gonna be all families I'm sure...wanting to show off their kids to each other.

I hate going places alone, so that's my first barrier. Sounds kind of lush-like, but perhaps I could have a drink or two before I show up. I don't know, that's not my usual style though.

I don't really think there's anyone that I'm just dying to see...most of the ones I'd want to see aren't going/live out of town, and since they planned this thing at the last minute, none from out of town are coming. I had some girls on FB ask me if I was going, so I guess they want to see me. I'm not sure what day(s) they are going, though, so I sent them a message today to find out if they will be there Saturday.
It was only $10 for the fee, so I just sent it in the mail today...I figure if I don't go it's not that much of a loss I guess.

And then...there's what to wear? It's a reunion, but at a local bar...it's not like it's at a hotel banquet hall or something. I'm tempted to just look really hot (if that's at all possible) in some tight jeans and a nice top and hot heels. But is that under-dressing? I don't have tons of other casual stuff...it's either very casual or more for work/conservative. And damnit, even though I'm trying not to spend $, I really thought I'd get a new outfit for it...just not sure what.

GO! you and I are in the same boat.. the difference that I can see is this: I have been heavy all of my life and to do things alone I always did. Movies alone, bar alone, shopping alone.. you name it I've done it alone.. so GO! It will show of your new self confidence to do it alone. (very sexy might I add)
It will be so worth it just to people watch. I'm going to mine, and I can NOT wait to go as my new sexy self, even if people don't remember how big I was or how far I've come, I know, and that's all that matters!

I'm with Kim - GO!!! I almost didn't go to my 10 year because I didn't think there would be anyone there that I wanted to see. Once there, I saw a ton of old friends I'd totally forgot about...and I went as a size 26 floral tent.

Clothes - I think what you had in mind with the jeans and top will be fine - be sure to wear the hot shoes.

On the lush end of it - hey, if they all start getting sloppy...you're free to go home, or invite your gal pals somewhere else after everyone has done the plesantries thing.

Go and have some fun...and freakin show off that hot bod of yours! Where better to do it???

Maybe take that 'neutral' friend of yours from work? Hell, I'd bet you could probably just go out on the street (but stay away from the corners!) and just pick out some hot guy walking by and get him to go with you...I dare ya! Go ask. Now. Get up out of your seat and go. I mean it!

Go!

Wear something calm and unassumptive

Like a leopard print mini skirt and a solid black strapped blouse, some 7 inch stilleto heels.

You would definately pull it off.

OK OK peeps! I'm going all right!

I heard back from the two chicks from FB and they'll both be going for the bar festivities so I'm going. And the one chick mentioned she was wearing jeans and I didn't even ask her. So, it's ON. Now I just have to find the hot outfit. I tried some stuff on tonight at Macy's but nada. I can't stand how just when I lose weight, they make puffy pirate shirts the style. WTF?????

OH, and Melissa, nice try, but I'm not kidnapping some random stranger to go to a reunion when most people's long-term partners/spouses would rather slit their wrists than go talk to a bunch of strangers and listen to story after story that they're not a part of. I will of course mention that I'm dating a hot younger guy, which I am, even though it's a secret here.

Jenn it is as though you are in my mind! I was just going thru this on Friday in my mind. I don't have a clue as to how to date or even have a conversation with a man. I haven't dated in 13 years. Pathetic I know. I have hidden behind my weight and being a single mom. My daughter sat me down for a "serious talk" and informed me that it is time I start dating and that she is alright with it! LOL! Can you imagine? I actually was having these thoughts while I was trying to ask my male friend if he could critique my match.com profile. He so doesn't understand how I feel. This scares the crap out of me. I have put up with more crap from men and chased when I should have walked cuz I didn't think I was worthy of anything better. So sad but a hard habit to break! HELP!!!!!! I am only 3 months from surgery and have only lost 1/2 of what I need to but I feel I can get out there again.

I think you should go to your class reunion. Go, have a great time and show them all. My all school reunion is next year and I am soooo going. I didn't go to my 20 year cuz I was so heavy. Embarrassed!

Carrie, I think that's great your daughter is encouraging you. I understand feeling scared, putting yourself out there, and it's a "new self" in a sense so it's uncharted territory on top of that. It has its good moments and its bad. I've sort of dropped out of the dating and looking for someone. I have a very casual thing going with a guy and for once I'm not overly preoccupied with where things go with him, so it could be that my attitude is finally changing, or that I just don't like him enough to care. But, I'm just enjoying it. I wish you so much luck in your search!

So, the reunion was last night and I went. I almost went to the picnic today, too, but I was ummm, a little hungover. I had a great time, drank a little more than I would've liked, although I don't think I made an ass out of myself or anything...besides, everyone else was probably equally drunk.

One shining moment was when this guy, who is really hot now and was always popular in H.S., but sort of a bad ass, admitted to me that he had a crush on me when we were little...his bro and my bro were in the same grade and also in the boy scouts, so I sometimes went to those activities if I was with my mom - he said that's when he had a crush on me. Now, granted, this was pre-teen, but still. No one has ever told me they had a crush on me, let alone liked me when I was growing up. I was very flattered. Too bad he lives in Philly b/c he is single.

I even asked this one girl who was always heavier how she lost so much weight...I don't know why, I just had this feeling she had the surgery, and she did...4 years ago. She looks great, AND she just had a baby like two months ago.

Anyway, here's what I wore, ANDDDDDDDDDD...those are size 12 jeans and a medium top - both firsts for me!!!!!!!!!!
