Default Feeling really good about my surgery

I just wanted to open up and tell all of you, Thank you for your posts. Before I had my surgery I was one of those who "lurked" but didn't post. I wanted to thank you for letting me know what to expect after my surgery. Thank you!!!! I had best-case scenarios and worst-case, and all of those in between.

Well I am six weeks out now and feel really great. I stopped taking my pain meds, after about 5 days. That could be because of the nasty taste of liquid Hydro or the fact I accidently took it too fast. I have to really brace myself to take that nasty stuff and I took too much too quick, boy did I feel it. Every once in a while I will take a swig of it because my back hurts.

I have been doing really good on my diet as well, no dumping syndrome yet, thank goodness. The only problem I have had was a few issues with dinner, it was either too dry or the spices didn't sit well with my pouch. One was I thought I could eat a baked chicken cordon blue. Yeah, that didn't work out too well and had to vomit it up. I have learned my lesson, make food really moist.
One of the best things I did was prior to surgery I made about 5 different soups (from the book Before and After weight loss surgery, by Maria Leach). I used an immersion blender to make them smooth and then froze the soups in ice cube trays. It was so easy to just take out an ice cube and reheat it in the microwave. This was a great tip from someone, I can't remember who.

My job gave me 6 weeks off at 100% pay, so, of course I'm taking all of it. I go back tomorrow. You know, when you are working you always think, man if I could just be off work...well, I have been off work and I thought I would be able to do sooooooooo much more. I feel so lazy sometimes. I have to keep reminding myself, you just had your stomach and intestines cut, relax and rest. So all that shopping I thought I would do hasn't happened.
The good thing is my boyfriend bought a house so he always needs someone there for something to be delivered.

I am needing food ideas, I will be searching the forums, but if anyone has any links, please let me know.

Well I can't wait to post more in the future and continuing to read about others' journey.

Congrats to all on your decisions and journey!

Welcome and congrats. I kinda lurk a lot around here too LOL. Every now and then I put my two cents in. There are lots of recipes in this forum you can use. I too have problems with chicken sometimes it is not nice to me. Made cordon blue a couple wks ago and after two bites up it came. Its all figuring out day to day what will work for you. Hope you the best in your new weight loss journey.

Hey, welcome, thanks for de-lurking!
When I went back to work, after 2 weeks (i'm jealous of your 6), I took little kid size containers of chili and beanie weenies...they were good for 2 days lunch! usually there was even more left over, but was not suitable for another day...blek...You'll find things you like and that work for you as time goes on...oh yeah, i took a mini blender and protein powder for shakes for days I just couldn't face food...

Well welcome aboard the posting bus Jaylene, good luck on the journey, and it sounds like you have made the commitment to eat right, and yes although its probably considered UN common to not dump, you have done what you need to, to avoid it, I too am 6 months out, and have not dumped, not hard if you eat right, just make sure you chew, Ive had a few bad experiences with plugging the ole hole!!

Chicken is a debatable food, my surgeon has changed his recommendations from 6 months, to a year now, yep, research has proven that chicken is very hard to digest, so we are not allowed it for a year, we can have dark turkey meat, but NO chicken, again, all surgeons are different, and Im sure that a ton of people can post that they have no issues with chicken, from the get go.

Now is the time to start a photo album, and track the progress, handy for bragging, and great for those days when you might feel a little down, just pull up the album, and see the success story you are, and it will cheer you up!!

I have a few more days before surgery. Im grateful for everyone here and all the great stories and advice. Im both excited and nervous about the surgery or the after surgery.I feel Im ready but how do you know for sure? I signed my release papers today so the reality is sinking in....I started this adventure in January and in just a few days the payday will come for all the hard work and frustration. Its been a long hard road yet Maybe It hasnt. I dont know. Just thanks for being here.
