Unhappy What am i doing wrong

hi sorry its been awhile since i was on here last, i have had alot going on,
i need some advice from fellow banders, i had mine fitted in oct 07 in brussels all went well, i weighed in at 20 stone at first i lost the weight quickly losing a stone and a half in 4 weeks having my first fill in the nov 07 in london only putting in 1/2 ml werent sure how i was supposed to feel after but the process of the fill killed me, i then lost a few pound here and there and went back for another fill in the feb o8 same place same surgeon who put in only 1/2 ml again, this time i was concerned that he wasnt putting in enough but thought he is the surgeon and its his job he knows what he is doing.
by April 08 i wasnt happy with the weight loss and spoke to a rep from brussels who i told my concerns too and my weight loss only being 2 and a bit stone by then, she advised me to go back to brussels for a proper fill with x-ray which i did i booked it straight away and went over on 18th april, it was fantastic it never hurt and he did the fill more accuratly than london, i felt as though i had a proper fill for the first time. the weekend was good i could hardly eat on liquids again and soups and weight started to come off.
its now october 08 a year since my band fit and i have still only lost 3 stone and since the last band fil in april am still inable to eat any meat and bread and struggle to eat pasta and rice i have to blend alot of my foods but for some reason can eat choclate and othe stuff i shouldnt be eating with out any problems, i try not to eat the wrong things and to be honest every day seems to be the same patern cereal in the morning, jacket potato or fish pie ready meal for lunch and steamed salmon fillet veg and one boiled potato for evening meal mashed together, followed by a yoghurt or small piece of cake with a scoop of ice cream. where am i going wrong some one please please help me i feel as thoughn i have wasted £4000 pound.
i will admit when weekends i do eat bad all the bad foods but never much of it and we do have a take away once a week but still i caqnt ever e\t much of that either and i go to the gym 2 times a week

I'm so sorry to hear that your band is not working well with you. I wonder if maybe it has slipped or something was not done right with it. Or maybe you just need a bigger fill. I wish I had answers for you, but I do empathize with you. I am going to have the bypass soon, but my best friend is going to be banded in 2 weeks. It sounds like there is a problem with the band, not necessarily a problem with what you are eating. When I went for my seminar, the surgeon did say that people are banded will be able to eat sweets, bread and other things that GBP patients can't with ease. Keep your chin up and reval in loosing what you have lost already. Hope this helps.

to be honest, you need to eliminate those carbs the processed white carbs. Cereal, potatos, ice cream and cake are not what you should be eating. I'm sure that there are more experienced and wordy folks that could tell you but in my own experience even with the RNY the carbs were my downfall. They slow the weight down to a complete halt. With yourself and the band i would say do the fruit instead of all those carbs. Hope that helped

to be honest every day seems to be the same patern cereal in the morning, jacket potato or fish pie ready meal for lunch and steamed salmon fillet veg and one boiled potato for evening meal mashed together, followed by a yoghurt or small piece of cake with a scoop of ice cream.

I'd say this is definitely your problem. Cereal, potato, "ready meal" (if that's the same as what we call "microwave meals" they're often full of fat and carbs), another potato, cake AND ice cream.

No one can lose weight eating those foods, no matter what surgery you've had.

Try spending a day writing down everything you eat, along with the protein/fat/carb/ grams. I think you'll be surprised.

Cool You are bored!!

Your eating plan is boring you that is why you are eating the 'wrong types of food'.
You should not be eating pureed food at this stage. You need to eat slowly and chew well. If the food will not go down then give it up.
2 good recipe books are Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery by P. Levine and M. Bontempo-Saray and Recipes for Life after Weight-Loss Surgery by M. Furtado and L. Schultz. They will help you vary your diet and give you healthy tasty food to eat. You can adapt the recipes for all the family. They are easily available from Amazon Books.
As has been said before keep a diary of what you are eating and do not cheat. You are doing so well this far, you just need to get on track and watch the weight come off. Good luck.

Default tool

Hi ya .
I did return ya pm ...
I think u have to look at what foods your consuming, and are u doing enough exercise .
The band is only a tool , which will help u feel less hungry and quicker satiety .
And as we know some bad foods slip down so easy with the band , Can u call brussels and ask them for a diet plan ?
Im sure after £4000 they could help u out with one .
If u consume foods that are high in fat & sugar eg: ice cream, cake, chocolate, milk shakes etc or high calorie crunchy foods like crisps biscuits etc ...your band will allow these foods through quickly, u will not feel full and be tempted to consume larger quantities.
This will prevent weight loss & lead to gain
For you band to work effectively , food needs to be of a 'drier' consistency , firmer rather than soft textured foods with less sauce or gravy, with drier foods the appropriate quantity of food should fit in the palm of your hand and this will keep u feeling full for longer ,

GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW

Aim to have 3 small meals a day
No snacking inbetween
Always eat small quantities , your main meal should fit on a 7 inch side plate and be composed of foods in the following proportions .
Approx one quarter protein (eg: meat poultry , fish & pulses)
One quarter starchy (potato , pasta , rice , bread) and one half vegetables .
Make sure that all drinks are low cal or no cals .
Drink frequently up to 15 mins before your meal and try and leave 2 hours after your meal before drinking, again this will make u feel fuller for longer .
Avoid fizzy drinks
Always eat and drink slowly without gulping and stop before u are full (it takes time for the brain to register a feeling of fullness, if u eat too quickly you may have already passed the point of fullness and u will suffer discomfort and regurgitation .
Take at least 20 mins per meal

Im not sure if this helps u , also if u carnt tolerate normal foods I think your band maybe filled too much .
Let me know how u get on
Best Regards
Sara x
