Default Did your Dr make you retest for H Pylori after taking the antibiotic treatment?

Hi just curious if anyone was or was not made to retest afterwards. I went so far as to schedule an appt with my PCP to take another blood test and she told me it made no difference as I would/could test positive for up to 3 yrs.

I have no symptoms of an ulcer, nor do I have reflux, gerd or any other problems like that. I have really had any stomach issues till I stated taking the Metformin. If I miss taking it, I have a mild case of loose bowels for the day (I know.. gross!) but it goes away.

I have been researching the issue and have read some medical journals that stated if there are no ulcer or ulcer related symptoms then the breath test is not generally needed or requested before going through a gastric bypass.

Anyone care to add their experience?

I was tested for h.pylori pre-op, but was negative. I think it's pretty common to be tested pre-op. I'm not sure what they do if you test positive, but I think it might delay your date.

Anyone test positive pre-op?

::bump::

I tested positive, took my meds, but I didn't have to take a retest.

i tested positive for it thru a blood test, took the meds and then a month later had to retest via the breath test before the doc would submit to insurance.
