Default "Whatever you are, be a good one."

"Whatever you are, be a good one." - My WLS Story

That is a favorite quote of mine from Abe Lincoln. In almost every aspect of my life, I have been a good "one" (daughter, sister, friend, student, coworker). There is nothing that I have felt like I couldn't do and no one in my family has ever told me not to try something. I truly have no fear (contrary to all my whining). And now gastric bypass is the next huge step. And I know I'll be a good WLS patient. I know I'll be successful.

I am struggling on the pre-op diet, but the fact that I'm even on it is so incredibly exciting. I am ecstatic I made it to this point and I cannot wait for 10-20-08.

I cannot wait to beat a family legacy of obesity. I want my Mom to see me succeed and believe that she can do the same. I told her not to get the surgery four years ago because I was selfish and frightened about her possible death - I was short-sighted. Now, I am absolutely positive that the only way she will be there for me when I have babies is if she gets the surgery. And she needs to see me succeed to believe in herself.

I have accomplished a lot in life, from finishing grad school at 25, buying my own home, completing a full 26.2 marathon, traveling the world, to skydiving. All before 30! Getting a gastric bypass is one more step in my quest to really live a full, happy life. I've been overweight and fighting food since around 16, but I will admit, I was a good fat person. I was funny, easy to be around, self-deprecating, sometimes sassy and always dieting and working out. That is what I was and I was a good one. No more. I am me and I've got one body and one life, and I want it to be a good one. WLS is the decision I've made to get there.

So, this is my personal story thread and I can't wait to FILL IT UP (even if I'm the only one posting)!! Thanks to Dr. Callery for creating this website and allowing others to participate. I do believe TT has been a huge part of my experience thus far and I expect it to stay that way. I can't wait to be one/two/three years post op and reminiscing with the October 08 staplers. Lets do this together :-)

Thank you all!

- Trish

Default Magnesium Citrate and Optisource

WOW! I had to buy the 10 oz bottle of Magnesium Citrate, better known as the bowel cleanse for the day before my surgery and seriously...

THAT CRAP LOOKS SCARY!!!!!!!!

It was so funny, it was on the bottom shelf, plain glass bottle, clear liquid, plain ole label, no frills for that company. I mean why would they want to market that stuff anyway, lol??? Who really cares about the packaging? The only people buying it are people who HAVE to buy it.

Then, I tried the sample of the pill my team wants us to use for the first year, it is Optisource by Novartis. FOUR TIMES A DAY! Wow.

I will admit, and I haven't really told the surgeon this, I've never been a good pill taker. I've never really had to take pills, so that may be why. I know how important that is and I'm really hoping I won't be forgetful. Maybe I need to get some kind of watch to beep at me and remind me??

Pre-op diet day 4 is FAB.

My post from last night is hilarious to me today...I was so emotional and serious! LOL! Just a lot on my mind and trying to give myself a pep talk, I guess.

Muay Thai kickboxing tonight, i can't wait. I am SO going to miss it after surgery, but I *hope* I can get back soon.

Hope all is well in TT land.

Default Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

ONE WEEK

At this time next week the doc will be cutting into me and getting ready to CUT MY STOMACH OFF

Sometimes it feels very surreal. I was looking at my tummy this morning and trying to imagine the wounds and how it would feel inside? Will I feel it inside? Will I ever "feel" the abandoned stomach??

Anyway, I am SO excited, it is hard to be at work. And my WHOLE office is going over to what will be our new building, at lunch, to check it out. And guess what management is providing... PIZZA!!! BLAH. And I am so hungry. I'll make it though, I know it. And I don't care if people notice I'm not eating the pizza, the rumors are already flying around, so I guess I'm in the "its just better if everyone knows camp."

Alrighty TT folks, next week I won't be around on a Monday. I can't wait, I'm about every single emotion possible and I am obsessed with TT and my WLS for dummies book, LOL.

Happy Monday all! The 10/13/08 weigh-in thread looked FABULOUS. Can't wait to be one of you :-)

You Go Girl!

Another good saying is... "She's good for nothing..." Think about it... she needs no reason to be good... she's good for no reason, she'll be good for nothing... the more you think about it, the less the original intention of that saying makes sense...

So sweetie... whatever you are, be a good one... and remember to be good for nothing (if not for yourself)! Safe travels on your journey... warming up the bench for you!

Trish!
I really would say that this journey is about attitude! And boy do you seem to have it!
The good one, that is!
May all go really well for you these last "stressful" days.
One week post-op will be "inconvenient" but with your determination, it sounds like easily overcome!
Bon voyage on the next chapter of your life! You sure will begin life at 30, not 40!
Happy living!
Cheers,
Vim

Default Doc and Hospital Pre-op

Its feeling more REAL than ever. Met with the surgeon again yesterday, he was all business, I was more emotion! I felt like I offended him with all my questions about complications and what could go wrong...looking back, I guess that is kinda crappy of me. But I trust him, I know he'll do a good job, I'm just scared.

The hospital this morning was pretty uneventful. My first EKG, blood tests, a chest x-ray. My x-ray tech was a hottie and all I could think about was my boobs and the gown, LOL. My EKG was "perfect." The last time I had blood work, the doc said my cholestorol was "fantastic."

Crazy to be so "healthy" and undergoing such major surgery.

In other news, I've lost 13 on the pre-op diet, down to 253. I was hoping to be 250 for surgery..since its a nice round number. Looks like I'll be able to do that.

TONIGHT IS PICTURE NIGHT!!!!! :-) I'm gonna do a bikini pic, work clothes, and jeans picture. Heck, why not, right?

FOUR MORE DAYS :-)
