Default Pre-op diet...very hard for me....

Hi everyone I am trying to lose weight before I get my GB...but its just so hard, and I am not doing as well as I should be...i tried to do the liquid thing, but that is not working for me, I tried to cut down on eating...but once again its not working for me, so if I don’t lose 40lbs then, I will never get he surgery. And also what is bugging me, if I can’t change my habits now, then will I be able to after sugary....will it just be a waste....I don’t know....help!!!!

I hear ya...it's hard. I also had the same requirements from my dr. It took me awhile. At first I tried exercise and trying to watch what I ate but that has never worked for me in the past and I cheated too much and so I failed. I went to the only thing that had worked for me in the past which was the Atkins Diet. I did proteins only for the first month and then added in green veggies after that and I lost about 32lbs in 2 months. I then got my surgery. Hang in there and don't give up! You can do this!

Smile it is hard

Hi Im also on my pre op health kick , On slim fast at the mo ..
It is very hard , and when u get hungry U feel like crying eh
Just try your utmost cause this is ya chance to change your life !
And when your dieting all u think about is food RIGHT ???
Think about all the POSITIVE things and try and snack on fruit or low fat yoghurts and try and drink plenty of water , water does fill u and the trigger for being hungry & thirsty is the same , so always have water near by .

Hope u get back on track
Sas x

I know the pre-op is very hard, but you have to focus on WHY and what waits for you when you do lose that weight!

I had to do the liquid diet but I was also allowed a salad for dinner. I didn't have too many problems. I drank 5 shakes a day and then the salad. I lost 21 pounds in 2 weeks and I didn't think I could do it but I did and now I am about 6 weeks post-op and feeling terrific.

You can do it if it is that important to you!

I used Optifast for the 1st week but that is real expensive. I checked out the ingredients against Optifast and Atkins drinks. They are just about exactly the same and I think that most of the Atkins are better in some respects. Atkins is so much more less expensive. For 1 week of Optifast I paid $130 and 1 week of Atkins was less than $60!

I found the Atkins drinks at Wal-mart! I drank 5/day and then had a salad (just veggies) for dinner.

Worked for me. Good luck!

Default We are in the same boat!

Wow Islandgirl we are in the same spot right now even down to our dr. appt with Dr. Callery today! He fussed at me about my weight loss. He explained that in less than 2 months we will be submitting my paperwork for approval but my weight loss will be the hold up. I am currently doing slim fast right now, it works with exercise as long as I stay consistant.
So be encouraged it is possible. What he told me is ask yourself do I really want this surgery? When I get ready to eat ask myself that, is what I am about to eat going to hurt or help me get there.

Keep at it and remember WE CAN DO IT!

OK, I'm a little confused right now. I haven't been to my first WLS meeting yet. (It's tonight) Why is it they want you to lose weight before your surgery. Isn't that why we are all either weighting to have WLS or we are trying for it? Because we can't lose weight on our own? If I could lose weight I don't think I would be going to a WLS meeting tonight. Please don't be too hard on me. i'm just a noob and don't understand.

i used slimfast low carb. ate 1 meal at night usually piece of chicken or steak with small helping of veggies. what saved me was beef jerky. you can chew it and it is very high in protein. you can do this.
