Jennifer's Story
I just couldn't handle my weight anymore. I got uncomfortable driving my car, sitting in a seat on the airplanes, walking, sleeping, you name it. I've tried to lose weight but to no avail. I had personal trainers, gym memberships, bought a very expensive treadmill, work-out videos, atkins, weight watchers, milkshake diets.
I looked into surgery about two years ago and decided I would continue to work on my own to lose the weight. Didn't work. The beginning of this year, my company's insurance changed to Anthem Blue Cross and I decided to look into it again. I visited Dr. Callery's office in early March. I signed up for orientation classes which I went to in April. Along with this, I went to support groups, diet classes, and met with the dietician. I asked her so many questions and was so curious. I decided to go forward with the gastic bypass.
They ordered me to get my blood work done and see a phyciatrist. I got bloodwork done in May and met with my psychiatrist in May. Once Dr. Callery's office got all of the results, they submitted by paperwork to insurance. I was approved for surgery three days later. I am very excited.
My pre-op appts are scheduled along with a surgery date of August 15.
I think I would like to get involved with an emotional support group which is no problem to find. The emotional part of this is what I don't think I know enough about or understand.
Either way, my boyfriend and family are very supportive along with my family and friends. I don't doubt that losing weight is going to improve my self-esteem but I don't think it will change my personality too much. We will see.
