Default A brief introduction

Greetings. I've been lurking around this website for several months reading the experiences of others.
I have researched gastric bypass for a few years, in fact, my mother had it done in 1975. After countless failed efforts to keep weight off, my nurse practitioner & I decided this would be a viable option for me.
I have completed all of my necessary testing & the doctor's office has all of the paperwork. Now I'm waiting for my appointment with them which will likely happen next week. I'm hoping the rest will proceed quickly.
I work as a nurse in New Hampshire & live with my 4 beautiful cats. I've got good friends & family that will help me through the rough spots.
Pam

Default Welcome!

Lurk no longer!! It's great to have you here! I bet the procedure in 1975 was very different from what it is today (let me know if I'm wrong). The old threads are a great help. There is info on just about anything, but if you can't find what you need, please post your question/concern. It is great you have a good support system at home. Have a great day!!!

Thanks for your kindness. That is what attracted me to this web-site, how supportive you all are to everyone here. It means alot.
The surgery my mother had was indeed different from the procedures done today. In fact, they no longer do the procedure she had done.
I have realistic goals with regard to this surgery. I want to do the things I used to enjoy such as skydiving & horseback riding. At present, it would be cruelty to animals if I tried to perch on a horse at my current weight . I also have the normal fears about it.
Again, I appreciate your kindness. Pam

I'll be having it with Dr. Gould from the Dartmouth Hitchcock program. The surgery will be at Elliot Hospital in Manchester. Next week I have the appointment with the nutritionist & in a couple of weeks I meet with the physician's assistant, then I'll meet with the surgeon. How are you feeling after 4 months?
DaleM, thanks for welcoming me. Folks do seem to be very supportive here.
Pam

Default feeling good

I feel great. I don't know how much I'm down because I have a cast on my foot and cant get an accurate reading but last time I was weighted was about 4 weeks ago and I was down I think 73 pounds so hopefully its more by now. I also work at CMC hospital so some people I told I had the surgery but some I didnt and people keep coming up to me and saying "wow I didn't even recognize you," "You look like a totally different person." I love it!!! Good luck to you and keep us posted on your surgery date.

Default East Coast friend

Welcome! I had the surgery in Boston about 2 1/2 months and I agree with everyone it has been the best decision I ever made. It's hard work and I have never regretted yet. You learn different eating habits and the surgery gives you the tools to achieve your goals. Good luck.
