Default Need some advice!

I had my Gastric Bypass Surgery on 4/2/08. Aside from my very difficult recovery period, I am now facing a new issue. I am not able to eat most things. The list of things I can eat is much smaller so I will share that with you.... popsicles, eggbeaters, pudding, jello, peanut butter. I vomit atleast
1x daily if not 2x daily. I don't feel like I am getting any nutrition what so ever. I have lost 42 pounds since 4/2 but am worried that I am only losing because I am not really eating.

I had an appt with my surgeon and doctor and they both indicated to keep trying and that it is too early to do anything yet. However, if in a month if I am still vomitting they may want to put a tube down my throat and try to expand the intestine a bit. The concern with that is that I may want to consume more (so they say) - but shouldn't I be consuming something!!!!

Has anyone else faced this?

I'm feeling extremely frustrated over this.

Sweety I think we have all faced this at some point... try getting your protien through shakes and slowly adding things..... I am at the same point you are and I still do not eat many solids if any in a day..... I try .. but somedays I just dont feel like dealing with the pain and throwing up..... so I just get myprotien shake on.... and drink my water.... my doc says as long as I take my vitamins.... drink my water and get my protien in all is good..... and I am almost to the 50 pound mark.... so just take it easy...and slow.. it will come around dont worry.... I am getting better...

It does sound scary.. and not in our "expectations" of what it would be like. But it sounds as if - like so many things in this WLS world - "it happens sometimes," and as if your Docs are not too concerned yet.

I suggest: Keep records of your foods and feelings and reactions... and keep the lines of communication open with your docs.

And: keep the faith.

I am 2 months post op and find it hard to have many of the food choices that my program offers. I stay with what works. If by the end of the day I have not had enough I drink a protein shake. Water is very important and I make it another priority. Hang in there and I hope you start to feel better.

I was in the same situation as you not able to eat much and vomiting a lot. I thought it was normal and that it would eventually pass. I finally talked to my surgeon at 3 months out and found out it was an ulcer. After being put on meds for it everything is all good.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all that replied. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one going through this (which we all know is not the case!). It's just that the people that I personally know that had the GBS had no problems at all.

And I don't think that the doctor's tell you the full story before you have the surgery.

So, it's good to know that I am not the only one facing this problem.

Thanks for your words of encouragement1
