I was told try to count calories - but when sitting down at a small, colorful meal, eat the protein first (protein is always what seems to agree with me the best too). And the advice on chewing - take it seriously! Fish is the best, if you like it. Bread is evil!
Good luck with your surgery! Keep up the posts!

Down the road. My first appointment at the Bariatric center is Sept. 2. Because of my age I am on Medicare. I have a feeling that there may be a 6 month diet before they will pay. I guess I will find out. I would just like to get on with the process. I am not the most patient person.

Wow !
OMG !! I can't believe what I'm reading.. Please know that having faith and trusting in yourself and god that you will come out of this before you know it.
Later you will have more stories to share, and I hope they are positive stories. Althou if it wasn't for you sharing and expressing yourselft in an honest way, I wouldn't know the things to watch out for. I enjoyed reading (and not in a wicked way ) your experiences. I'm truely sorry and I don't wish that on my worst enemy.
Please keep me posted.. Take care and know that I have said a prayer for you.
Maria (still has not had the surgery) YIKES ! LOL

Hey Sweetie,
Thanks for the props. I'm in another wave of Lake Depression, but I had a great convo with my son yesterday, and it gave me the boost I needed to do some stuff I have needed to do to take care of bidness. My daughter isn't speaking to me, which is a huge drag, but I'll get through it.
I'm excited that you both are in the 'flying weight' phase of the program. Don't be discouraged if Danita is losing faster than you. I'm willing to bet she has a higher level of Testosterone in her blood, which is why men lose weight faster than we do. You're losing, albeit slower, but you're LOSING. Why don't the two of you plan a date each week to go dancing? It uses up a ton of calories, is fun, and there has to be a women's bar in HotLanta to hang in. Just a suggestion for some fun exercise.
You're on the right track, M', and you will start seeing results!

Complication
Hello all! How are all of you doing? I know it's been a long time since I've posted but when I'm stressed out I go into a bit of a seclusion. I've been laid off of my job for 2 months and haven't even had so much as an interview, but God willing, that will change.
Some of you may remember that on June 24th, I had to rush Danita to the ER for that pain in her stomach. They couldn't see anything wrong except she was "backed up" and they were able to see a cyst that had burst and was on its way to healing. She has been experiencing the pain off and on since then but just recently it's become worse.
Sometimes when Danita eats and drinks she gets a pain in her lower abdomen, almost in her groin, where it feels like her intestines are being twisted real tight...and then let go of. So it's like a contract and release type of pain that brings her to her knees. She is scared to death to eat so she hardly ever eats a thing. She's lost so much weight because of this that I'm pretty worried. So we began the doc appts last week and this week, hopefully, something will be found.
We went to our surgeon on Friday, Dr. Sweeney, to get another CT scan done like the one she had in the ER back in June. He couldn't see anything wrong, except he could see a real big cyst on one of her ovaries. Danita has been staying "cleaned out" with all kinds of laxatives and prescription anti-constipation pills that apparently the "back up" problem was non-existent because the doc didn't mention seeing it at all on the CT scan. That was good.
Because of these problems and because her Mother died of colon cancer, Danita will begin the trouble shooting with a colonoscopy. She's going to try and kill 2 birds with 1 stone and it will be next Monday on 9/29. At some point this week, she will be getting another EGD, where they put a camera down her esophogus (sp?) to see if anything might be wrong in that area. We had to do this before our surgeries to make sure we didn't have any ulcers, so she knows what to expect.
In the meanwhile, Danita will be getting an ultrasound on her stomach to try and find something that way. If nothing is found during all of these procedures, Dr. Sweeney says that his last resort will be to take Danita into exploratory surgery and do a laparoscopy. I've had one of those done before, where they take a camera through your belly button and look around in the intestines to see if a problem can be found.
So, one way or another, we will find out what is going on inside of my sweet baby. I'm so worried about her. I hate that she is the one having a complication. If I could, I'd take it from her. She hardly eats and hardly drinks because she doesn't want to feel the pain. God I'm so worried.
I'm telling you, if it weren't for bad luck we'd have no luck at all....
Please say a prayer for both of us.
Thanks,
Mahealani
