Know this. I was very stupid today- had stuff I shouldn't have had. But I sat here at 9 pm and said- what am I gonna do, dwell? NOPE! I got my ass downstairs on the elliptical and just finished up around 10. LOL CRAZY huh?
Justroni.. I can't believe you read this entire thread.. that is CRAZY.. I went back and read some of the older stuff- to be honest some of it was painful, some made me cry.. other stuff made me happy. Right now I'm feeling really proud of myself... I could just SHOUT from the rooftops.
I've been on the elliptical rider every day this week.. I use the program that alternates the speeds & resistance and I pedal frontwards and backwards- mix it up. I am not allowed to go for my walks that I used to do and got some much out of so I'm really happy to have this alternative. The next two days will be filled with tons of walking but I'm hoping to get up in time to do at least 30 minutes both mornings. >fingerscrossed< lol

LOL..It was crazy that I sat and read your whole thread. My hubby and I are both 3rd shift workers. I am trying to stay on my regular schedule while I am out on leave. I knew that if I slept at night for 5 weeks it would kill me when I started back to work.
You should be PROUD of yourself with all that you have accomplished

Okay- so the last three days.
1st? I am an idiot. I will never learn, I guess. Well, hopefully I did. I truly did have a real, honest to goodness dump. Like I mentioned elsewhere.. you never really know a real dump until you actually DO have one and yes, Kelly does dump if she's stupid enough.
Friday night went out with the hubby..... long story short, it ended up being at a restaurant tho we didn't realize and had eaten already so we ordered dessert. Yeah, yeah. I am officially a dumbass. Oven warm brownie sundae with rich warm chocolate sauce is not what someone like me should be eating. If there is any positive at all, it is that post-bypass it doesn't taste much different going in either direction.
Yesterday was a trip to my moms to visit my sister who was up from WV. It was good to see her.. and I was the perfect bypasser on food/beverages- Today, we're home, watching the sox beat the devil rays, knitting and inbetween, we've been doing a bit of cleaning and picking up. Hubby bought himself a cremee, offered me one and I said No. I want that 150 by dec and I have to be prepared to work it. Cremee's don't get me to that goal AT ALL.
Friday, I did the two 1/2 hours of trimming lawn and gardening, 45 minutes on the elliptical. Didn't do any elliptical yesterday and 45 minutes today.

I'm so impressed with all the exercise you're getting! Sorry about your dump. Guess you won't be eating dessert again any time soon, huh?

thanks Kelly! I kept wondering if some other small episodes were dumping or not.. and had figured out that it was more likely something either stuck or low blood sugar. I know for a fact this WAS a dump... no question now, and I finally know what it means to do so.
As for the exercise.. It doesn't seem to be showing up on the scale at all but even if it never does, I still know I'm healthier than I am otherwise so I will keep plugging away!

Okay my reply over there was that I find the information given at the website confusing. Josephine, thanks for posting the basic info. When I last looked at the website I didn't see that generic basic info laid out like that.
Quote:
Day 1 & 2:
The first two days are all liquids. You can have as many low-carb protein shakes as you like to satisfy hunger or cravings. In addition drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of water each day. The purpose of all liquids is to break any snacking, grazing or processed carbohydrate habits. In addition the liquids will work to cleanse your system and prepare you for the following three days.
Try to reduce your caffeine intake as well, but do not stop caffeine cold turkey or you will feel sick and frustrated potentially losing the desire to continue with the pouch test.
This above seems fine.. doable, anyway.
Day 3:
The next three days you get to eat as much as you want as often as you want! Ahhh, but there's a catch: it has to be solid protein and you only get 15 minutes each time you sit down to eat. No drinking 30 minutes before or after meals and no drinking with your food. A dry pouch will hold your soft protein longer helping your to feel full and fed longer.
This doesn't seem difficult. I already stop drinking 30 minutes before eating and wait at least 30 but usually 60 minutes before drinking again.
Protein Recommendations: canned fish (tuna or salmon) mixed with lemon and seasoned with salt and pepper, eggs cooked as desired seasoned with salt pepper and/or salsa, fresh soft fish (tilapia, sole, orange roughy), baked or grilled, and lightly seasoned.
That's it? eggs or fish? Cuz I will not eat seafood of any kind whatsoever, and eggs only scrambled. I am not going to be able to eat just eggs all day long.
This starts your program with "soft" protein. Measure your portion (1 cup volume or 4-6 ounces weight) and eat only until you feel full, not overfull. Remember, no water for 30 minutes before or after you meal, and no fluids with your meal. We are going back to the beginning and fluids will prevent you from feeling the pouch. If you need to add a moist condiment ( Miracle Whip or mayonnaise) to the canned fish I understand, but keep it to a minimum so the meat is not too moist. One reason we lose the sense of tightness in our pouch is that we eat "slider foods" - foods that are too moist and do not stay in the pouch very long, they slide right through the stoma.
Day 4:
Protein Recommendations: ground meat (beef, turkey, lamb) cooked dry and lightly seasoned, shellfish, scallops, lobster steamed and seasoned only with lemon, salmon or halibut steaks, grilled and lightly seasoned.
dry meat is impossible to get down. And seafood is out. Doesn't leave much!
By now you should be experiencing that familiar tightness that will reassure you that your pouch is working. Remember to drink plenty of water between meals. Take some time to meditate and rediscover the wonder of your pouch. Often we don't like that uncomfortable tightness of the pouch, which is why we gradually move toward slider foods that don't make us uncomfortable. It is always my preference to eat moist protein so I don't get uncomfortable, but doing so allows me to consume more than I should. Rediscovering the pouch with this 5-day plan reminds me of how the tool really works. I hope by now you are rediscovering your tool and enjoying the hope and excitement because your pouch still works.
Day 5:
Remember to chew chew chew. Measure your portion (4-6 ounces) and eat only until you feel your pouch tighten. Remember, only 15 minutes per meal, so you'll have to work fast to chew your food completely. By now you should be out of any carb cycle you were in and perhaps you have lost a pound or two. You will have new confidence in your pouch and your ability to work the tool for your health and emotional well being.
Don't go hungry! Remember, you can eat as often as you want as long as it is solid protein, consumed without liquids and measured in 4-6 ounce portions.
|
Now it comes back to me why I didn't do this.. I don't eat simple carbs 99.9% of the time.. I don't have crackers, rice, chips, cookies.
And I don't eat seafood or cottage cheese AT ALL. Eggs are okay, scrambled.
Considering what I eat, in the qty I eat them, there's not really a good explanation for not weighing less than I do.

I'm not sayin' you should do the pouch test, and I don't even know if it would be helpful to you or not. It's good for when you're eating too large of quantities or when you're eating too many carbs or are just off track and need to get back on track, and it doesn't sound like any of that applies to you. But if you ever do want to do it, you don't have to eat fish or just eat eggs all day. I did it, and I'm a vegetarian. You just do liquids the first two days (which includes soups, and their website has some really yummy soup recipes), soft protein the third day (I did eggs and yogurt, along with more soup), and denser protein the forth and fifth day.
Kelly
