Default Sissi's a loser ;-)

I decided to create my own thread to share my experience post-op.

It's been one month after the surgery. I'm feeling ok, sometimes I have some cramps in my abdomen (on the left side), but my doctor says that surgically everything is ok with me (had my first post-op ultrasonography a few days ago). Up till now I've lost 26.7lbs (12.1 kg) and it's really starting to show I haven't thrown up and I'm starting eat unpureed food. Of course, I've had some nausea sometimes when I ate a tad too much, but that's pretty much it :-)

I spent 5,5 days at the hospital. And around 60 hours without drinking. I had my surgery on Wednesday and I had an x-ray with contrast to check if I wasn't leaking on Friday. I went home on Sunday before noon. The funny part was with my smoking - during the morning rounds the next day after my surgery they were kicking me out of bed ordering me to get a smoke It was supposed to irritate my lungs a bit and make me spit. And my doctors ordered me not to quit smoking at least for the first 2-3 weeks after my surgery. I also had to give myself anti-clot shots for 3 weeks after I went home.

Anyways, I'm all good, feel great and losing weight :-)

Default Sounds like you're doing great!

I am still amazed at how fast people lose weight the first few months after surgery. 26 lbs. in a month! Wow! Hope you have an amazing journey! Keep up the good work.

Congrats on your weight loss!

I have to admit that having your doctor recommend smoking...kind of threw me for a loop. But I guess you should follow doctors orders...

Enjoy your weight loss journey...it's amazing!

Thanks everyone

I'm about to start exercising - they recommend waiting for about a month after the surgery.

Dawn, don't worry, be patient. My friend, who had her surgery on Feb 1, and I have also had some slower days. She's even had a slow week already, after which her weight's started to drop again. She's a real trooper - up till now she's lost 37lbs.

As for the smoking stuff - they didn't MAKE me smoke They told me that since I'm already a smoker, I should smoke a few cigarettes a day. At the hospital it obviously involved more walking (and thus mitigating the risk of getting clots in my legs, which could travel to my lungs and cause pulmonary embolism - not sure if I'm spelling it correctly) plus it'd stimulate lungs to get rid of anything that might have fed bacteria which might cause pneumonia. Apart from this I was getting special inhalations and was doing something they called "breathing" exercises - I had to blow through a tube which was placed in a small bottle half filled with water and make bubbles. Apart from this quitting smoking at this very moment would impose additional stress on my body, which after a serious surgery like RNY I should avoid. Of course the official doctor's party line is that smoking is really really bad and nasty

Yay! As of today I'm officially no longer obese, just overweight! And I feel great However, my liver is acting up a little bit (one enzyme is even 3 times greater than the normal level ), but my doctor is saying that it's because I'm loosing weight quickly. I need to take some medication for my liver and have blood work done in 1,5 mths - hopefully it'll get back to normal.

I started cooking again, I'm discovering new tastes, I swim, do some excercise and I got myself into a size 14 (UK) pair of jeans. Yay again
