thanks!
Gwen - didnt mention it because the crying was waaay more prominent to me at that time!! I'm seeing my miracle-man surgeon on Friday for my 1 month post op so will def ask him about it then...
blisandt - I'm not taking any form of sweeteners at the moment - am still on full liquids (which is mainly home-made soup so I know exactly whats in it!). It's always good to rule things out though.
It could just plain be that my body is in shock... I had it so easy in the beginning post surgery so maybe my body is just waking up and is having a little mini panic attack of it's own?!
Either way - will ask the doc! Also just thinking... my boyf took me to Kruger Park the weekend before the op... it could be malaria (oh no!) - I'll ask the surgeon to do bloods too just to rule it out.
Thanks for the support... we all keep on hanging on.

Help Help Help!!
My boss invited me and my boyf for dinner on Friday!!! I'm only 6 weeks post op - how am I going to explain eating the equivalent of only 6 grapes and a goosefoot????? I can't get out of it either... my boss is so busy, if you get invited for supper you GO!
My mom says I shouldnt go, it will be too awkward to explain. But I really dont see how I can explain not going without offending my boss and his wife!
Should I tell them I'm on a strict diet? Tell them I had stomach surgery and am not allowed to stretch my tummy?
How do you all handle these situation so early on?

Hi Super Annie:
That's what I gotta call you now 'cause you are doing so very well...If your boss values you as an employee, he's glad you're taking such good care of yourself. And unless he's a total idiot, he's got to have noticed your weightloss...I'd simply be honest with him and tell him that you'd love to come by with your boyfriend, but you're truly not the best addition to a dinner party these days, because of your special surgery. As long as there's some protein that you could eat there, you're probably aok, but let him and his wife know ahead of time that you eat like a bird these days and you don't imbibe, etc...so you may not be "delightful dinner party company." At least that's what I've said in social occasions as a minister--I've turned down wedding reception meals, funeral gatherings for family and stuff where people likely feel 'obliged' to invite me. In some occasions, I stick around and have some water with a lemon wedge, say the prayer they may be expecting from me and then take off--but I always warn the host or hostess that I am not staying for a meal so they don't prepare one or get charged for another plate at a table. How well do you know your boss? Like your boss? Are there others invited besides you and boyf? If you declined now, would you ever get asked again? Would that matter to you, career-wise, etc. Just my thoughts.
Blessings!
BillH

Thanks Bill!
Super Annie.... I like it!!! he he!
Well it wouldn't be bad for my career not to go, but would be good to go. I spoke to Gary (boyf) and he says we should maybe ask to change the invite to drinks only... Gary is a pharmacist and closes the shop quite late so probably would be too late for dinner - which is a great excuse... and then we can still have the social time with the boss, but in a less awkward position for me. No one feels rejected!
I haven't told many people about my op - it's not nearly as popular here in SA as in USA so I don't want to just say that I've had surgery... I know his wife and she NOSY!!! She wouldn't let it slide. And my boss would notice that I've lost weight - but thanks to that may encourage me to eat more veggies which I just wouldn't be able to fit in!
Hopefully when I tell him tomorrow that we would like to come for drinks, that he'll be happy with that... I pray he'll be happy with that!
Will let you know tomorrow what he says. Wasn't expecting to have to deal with this stuff so early on... it's hard - I really don't want to lie, but I don't want to tell everyone and anyone either. It's difficult!

Truly, I have no idea what life's like for you, so why should I meddle? But meddle I will, I guess...I am wondering why the secrecy--I mean, it's your choice, but maybe you honor your boss by letting him in on your secret and that solves the whole thing. Then again, you say he has a nosey wife and if she's nosey, she's likely to be a gossip as well, and if he doesn't keep confidences well, then who knows how many folk in SA know what's going on in your life due to his wife's blaring it about. It could be that it's best to use your boyfriend's working hours as an excuse, but might your boss read into it more than you want him to read into it??? I guess I am just curious about why you feel the need to be as secretive as you are about it all--but hey, that's up to you and it's really not my business. I'm sure what ever choice you make will be fine. But again, isn't he noticing your weight loss? If you don't tell him about your surgery, might he end up wondering if you're dying of cancer or something??? Just a thought...or a meddlesome comment...but meant to be 'friend to friend'...
Peace,
BillH

Ha ha ha!! I dont think he'll think I'm dying of cancer!
I guess I just don't him well enough on a personal basis - not well enough to share something as personal as this surgery which is so highly controversial here. Also, his wife is a major gossip, and within an hour I'm sure the entire company would know about the surgery, and well, I don't feel I need to keep backing up my decision to a bunch of people who hardly know who I am and who have proved to be quite critical and judgemental about the smallest things (it's a cultural thing!).
I guess I am being fairly secretive about it, but only to the "outsiders" of my life. The people who really matter to me know the truth and support me, the rest, well, I dont have the strength to explain myself all the time! I know this makes it harder for - as in my current situation, but on the bigger scale, it makes it easier for this social-phobic person called Annie!

Hi Renee!
I did go.. and it turned out well. Phew. I phoned his wife and told her not to cook a whole portion for me that I was on a very strict diet and have to eat tiny portions 10 times a day... which fortunately is all true! She told me not to worry and that they wouldnt make a big deal out of it - they wanted to see me and not just have me over to eat. So we went and it was very pleasant. I still had too much food dished up for me but Gary kindly sneaked some off my plate when no one was looking so it looked like I ate well!
