Angie...thank you. I am SO GLAD to hear she is doing good. Sounds like she is ahead one day...ie: leak test and leaving the hospital!

I'm a loser now!!!!!!
Thank you so much for all the thoughts and well wishes, but thank you mostly for the excitement that you all have shown as I begin my journey. I have so many wonderful sisters on this website that have been such wonderful examples.
Surgery on Monday made me an official loser. My surgery went really well. I did hear that it took just over 3 hours which I know is very long for a laproscopic surgery but Dr. Nohr is just beginning to do more gastric bypass surgeries this way and I am soooooooooooooooo glad that he took a chance on me. The nurses made many comments on how this is so much easier on the patients and how well I was doing. My husband told me tuesday morning that he heard they were going to put a drain in my head to relieve the pressure from the big head the nurses were giving me.
Most Nohr patients have two drains in place when they wake up plus a ng tube in the nose. I only had one drain in my abdominal cavity and this drain was removed early thursday afternoon. I was told that there is much more manipulation of the organs when the procedure is done openly so the ng tube and the drain in the old stomach allow everything to rest a little more.
My IV got blocked thursday morning and instead of putting a new one in they just took it out since I was starting to take in fluids. It was nice not to have to be hooked up to anything for the better part of two days and a night.
It has been nice to be in my own house and sleeping in my own bed without my crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy room mate. She was in her 60s and had had a knee replacement surgery. Nothing the nurses or doctor could do was good enough. Complain complain complain!!!!! On thursday they gave her a drug which got rid of the anesthetic in her system because she was so groggy all the time. Well she woke up very quickly and disoriented and was sure the nurses were trying to kill her with a drug overdose. It made for quite a bit of entertainment anyway.
Fluids and pureed foods are going quite well. I know my protein isn't quite where it should be but I'm working at it. I am getting in all my fluid. I find myself quite thirsty though and just sip sip sip all day long. Plain water is my favorite though. I find any type of flavored water and crystal light just too sweet.
Wahooooooooooooo I'm a loser now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Tawna, it sounds like you are off to a great start! Doesn't it feel SO GOOD to be in your own bed! I was only in the hospital one night but even then I was so ready to get home.
You're doing a great job taking care of yourself!! It's so nice to have you on the bench with the rest of us, losers!!

Our girl is home...Yippeee. Don't forget...take pictures and measurments....you will want these as you soon won't recognize the girl in the mirror. Good work with the fluids...the protein will come...took me almost 3 months, not what I would have wanted, but the reality.
Thanks for phoning me the other day from you hospital bed - good to hear your voice and knowing that you were fine.
Still......mama bear here....TAKE IT EASY!!!! I know the whole family is happy to have mom home, but you need your rest right now too! Sit down and make some cards :-)
PS: love your new signature....you looser you!

Hey Carrie miss you girl!!!!!!!!! I am calling you tonight hope you are home.
This week has been going well. Fluids are going in great....I am getting in my 64 oz. I find that I like just plain water and fairly cold. I find myself quite thirsty and it takes all I have at times not to chug the water down.
Protein is going fairly well too. I'm between 50 and 60 grams most days but the dietition would like to see me at 70 grams. I'm determined though so that is good. It's a lot of work though this eating and drinking!!!!!!!!!
Thanks goodness for beneprotein. It's a flavorless protein powder that I can add to most anything. I tried the dried milk but didn't like the flavor that it added. For anyone looking for beneprotein I had my local pharmacist order it in for me.
