Unhappy Tough day

After being awakened by the loud bang of the earthquake I had trouble going back to sleep. So I woke up in just enough time to race the boys to school, then had to go back home and change to go to work.

I drank a LOT of water today, and developed an agonizing headache. I took aspirin twice, but it didn't help. Finally I wondered if maybe I was hungry and if food would help (don't we always think food will help anything?). So, I got a salad at the deli downstairs and ate it. Plus I got a Sobe green tea and drank that. After about 1/2 hour, my headache vanished. Hurrah! When I say a lot of water, I mean at least 3 44 oz cups of water, plus the Sobe. I guess that did kill the old appetite.

It was so great to meet so many people last night, and I saw my best friend start to talk about what she's been through since her surgery with people who get it for the first time. Zina has talked to me about it before, but I haven't gone thru it yet. So seeing her talk about things and seeing other folks at the table nod in understanding showed me how much the support means.

John & I met with Kelly this morning. She said several times that she was surprised that I am as healthy as I am at my age and weight. She's nice, but brisk. She also commented about how quiet my husband was, and asked if he had any questions. Nope. I need to go to the nutrition meeting and the pre-op meeting still, plus I need several tests done. But, I'm down to 258! And she told me not to gain any weight.

Default Brooding all weekend

When I got home Friday, John said, that there was a letter I needed to read. It was from Sharp Radiology and said my mammogram "showed a finding that requires additional imaging studies for a complete evaluation. Most such findings are benign (not cancer)."

I feel like my life has taken a weird left turn.

Ok, so as I was typing that, I was on the phone to the radiology group and they said they want to do additional views of my left breast Ok, so I guess it's literally a left turn. They put me in for an appointment this afternoon. I'm now officially freaked out.

Thumbs down Tests, Tests and more Tests

I faxed the list of tests Dr. Callery/Kelly want me to get done before they can do dictation, etc to my PCP. I called yesterday to see if he'd ordered them, nope. But his nurse got him to put in the orders, and I got a message this morning from her. My echocardiogram is scheduled for 4/29, but the gallbladder ultrasound isn't until 6/15. I called radiology to see if there was any way to move it up sooner, and they said no. I want this surgery, and I admit patience is not my strong suit. Plus, I've got gallstones and they hurt. (excuse the loud whine there) So I called the main number again to ask the dr. to try to make it sooner. He's not in today, and so I guess I'll hear back tomorrow.

Ok, so here's my manipulative side coming out. I feel like going to urgent care straight from work and really complaining about the pain to get the ultrasound done ASAP. Problem is, I have the boys tonight while John's bowling, and it's not fair to them to schlep them to urgent care because I'm impatient. Tomorrow night is the new student orientation for my son's middle school so that night is out, and yada yada yada.

The honest thing is, it really does hurt, almost all the darn time. I guess I'll just wait to see what my dr. says tomorrow.

Thumbs down Losing 15 pounds

Has anyone heard about losing weight before the surgery? I was told to lose 15-20 pounds before I get the op. Now that's a problem

I lost 25 pounds just by quitting soda, taking the stairs instead of elevator, and parking at the back instead of the front.

Talking Jumping for Joy!!!!!!!!!!

We've had our precious Joey in our family since January 26, 2003. We went to court at least 17 times in our continuing attempts to adopt him. And today I found out the final barrier is gone. The appeals court found in our favor, and we'll be able to finalize the adoption soon. I was embarrassed to burst into tears at work, but I felt like a 300 lb rock rolled off my back.

nancy,
Congratulations on your getting your barriers removed!!! I know what a struggle that is. Adoption is a wonderful thing and I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Hope everything goes well from here on out!!!!
