Thanks, but if I end up in a speedo...it will be because I'm quite inebriated and unable to make rational decisions!

As another podmate with you and Corrine (and Gwen, who is practically a podmate) I love keeping up on how y'all are doing. And Mike, you never fail to say something touching or crack me up or both -- like that picture of Lily. I laughed and said "awwwwww!" at the same time. So cute! You are keeping on as my inspiration. I like your recording of what you're eating. I take some of my eating cues from you. Actually, I had shrimp last night, too. So yummy! I had 2 shrimp, 1 slice of squash, a couple bites of mashed garlic potatoes, and 2 bites of chicken with asiago and garlic sauce. I loved it and felt perfectly full. And I also now have leftovers coming out my ears, LOL!

You said that you felt a slowdown in weight-loss is coming. I feel that, too. I've managed to stop myself weighing every morning and I've cut down to every 3 days now. Well, this morning was the first that I hadn't lost anything since 3 days ago. The first mini-plateau, perhaps? I'll keep active and doing light gym work-outs. I'm still not feeling 100% by any means, so it has to be light stuff. Definitely do not want another pulled muscle! But all my clothes are SO LOOSE -- must be doing something right!

Sorry for babbling at you but please keep updating us on how you're doing!

Default 4 week update...

So, at this point, I've been to the gym 4 times since Wednesday, and my diet has stayed about the same...600-800 calories a day, at least 60 grams of protein and at least 64 ounces of fluids.

I've been trying to just weigh myself on one scale only, and only once a week, but I gave in and weighed at the gym on Wednesday. I had gained 3 pounds, but then by Saturday, I had a net loss of 4 pounds for the week, putting me at 50 pounds lost total...woooohooooo!

I walked a mile and half today...I haven't done that in years! I also tried the recumbent bicycle, but I seriously think it hates me...I'm not sure we're going to have a lasting relationship.

Default Awesome progress!

Mike, 50 pounds lost is awesome progress - congratulations!

I had to break up with the recumbent cycle I was seeing last August, because it was causing trouble with my cartilege-free knees, but I now have a mature, fulfilling menage a trois relationship with a swimming pool and an Aqua Jogger belt, and life is beautiful again...

Thanks Eric,

We've closed our pool for the season...I'm not quite ready for public half-nudity at a community pool so I'm just going to wait until the late Spring when we reopen to go swimming again!

I should have left it open. I closed in September because last year the thing was covered with leaves and closing it took forever. Plus, it had gotten cold, and we were settling in for an early winter. Then it heated back up and the damn leaves STILL haven't fallen off the trees yet.

Next year, we'll leave it open a little longer!

Default Public half-nudity and pool closures

Mike, I didn't think about the fact that you are contending with NY weather and have closed your pool for the season. I totally understand and respect your decision to wait until spring to swim in your own pool, but I have to tout the benefits of public half-nudity if you have the option of a community pool.

When I first started my water cardio class in August, I wore a colored t-shirt into the outdoor pool with my bathing suit, so as not to horrify the tanned, toned, and ripped gymfolk with the sight of my massively fat, chalk-white torso and hairy man-teats. It was not modesty that kept me covered - it was vanity. I wore the t-shirt for a couple of classes, had to deal with the hideousness of climbing out of the pool wearing 70 yards of clinging, sopping wet cotton knit, and thought "Screw this - they'll all just have to deal with the sight of it! I'm going topless the next time!" And I have, ever since.

You know what? Nobody pays any attention - seriously. Fat people are invisible in this society, and nowhere more so than at a gym or a community pool. NOBODY is checking out my body - they're too busy admiring their own. It has been really liberating for me to let go of the fear that I had of other people's opinions of my body (and, as one of my favorite expressions goes: other people's opinions of me are none of my business anyway) and just do my pool workouts.

I will cop to checking everybody else out, and I see not only lots of good or great bodies, which I choose to find inspiring as well as visually appealing, but also LOTS of imperfect bodies belonging to people who seem to be un-self-conscious about their appearance in bathing suits as they go about getting healthier, happier, and more fit.

I'm not planning on scampering through town in a Speedo, at least until next week, but I am now totally fine with being seen in a bathing suit at the pool (or naked in the locker room) - it ain't pretty, but it's mine and I'm not going to stay away from the pool or wear that g-d t-shirt again!
