Mike, you always make me think, and for this I am so grateful.

There is definitely a disconnect between mind and body when we are so out of tune. But we don't realize it, of course.

I had given up on life, was in a wheelchair in excruciating back pain, and when the pain management specialist told me that he couldn't help me anymore, BUT that weight loss surgery could be the beginning of a better life (along with physical therapy after lsoing 50 lbs), I was shocked. I never put that together. DUHHHHH.... Talk about disconnect!!!!

I hope I NEVER get over the total wonder of what has happened to me in the last months, my renewed life, at my age. I hope that stays with me and continues to make me smile. I hope it stays with you, too. It is all about self-discovery. Mike, you will continue self-discovery as you move on with your life. And from a new perspective. YOU, of all people, being the sensitive soul that you are, will feel everything more deeply than most of us, will experience life fully. From the outside in, and from the inside out.

Thank you for always making me think.....

The first thing I noticed between your old photos and your avatar is your smile. In the old photos you smile like you aren't happy, but you're smiling anyway. The new photos your smile lights up your face and you look so happy! You're 100% about the phsychological part of this journey! You've done so great and have so much to be proud of yourself for!

Mike,
Claire has said it so wonderfully, so warmly and so meaningfully that I have - for once!!! - nothing to add, other than I know how rewarding it is to hear it over and over again.
One aspect of Life is its matter of timing - being at the right/wrong place at the right/wrong place at the time and also synchronising, fusion. As in an intimate relationship, the beauty of oneness at the same time (you know what I mean!). It seems to me that this weight loss body and mind journey is pretty much the same!
Keep well my Friend!
Cheers,
Vim

Default Up Early This Morning...

I got up early this morning...partly due to starting the new job today and partly due to wanting to catch a portion of the solar eclipse, which I missed completely. We don't have a great horizon view, and by the time the sun was up enough to see, the partial was over. I don't think it was visible from my area anyway, as it happened so early this morning, but I was holding out hope. I dragged my scope out regardless and snapped a couple of pics. Hopefully the next eclipse will be visible in our area!

Mike -

Knowing the man I know now (because I didn't meet you til you were in the process of becoming a butterfly) what I see is a new light shinning in your eyes now that was dim in your before pix. You have a new pep to your step and a bright light shining in your eyes for all to see. Not to mention your incredible weight loss...WOW!!

Good luck in your new job today, hon...I will be thinking about you all day and want an update as to how things are going there...

New job went well on Friday. Kind of a low key day...I jump right in tomorrow doing staff development in a local school district, then back to the office on Tuesday! I thought I'd post a couple more pics this weekend. We went shopping at Target and Old Navy and I bought some clothes...mostly 40's but some 38's! I don't think I've been in 38's since high school. Speaking of high school...I'm 14 pounds away from what I weighed when I graduated high school...210! I was a little beefier up top because I was working out a lot (and going to McDonald's everyday...though back then, my metabolism could handle it!). Now I'm a skin bag and sag, sag, sag...but saggy skin or not...I feel freakin' awesome and I don't regret one second of these last ten months!

-Mike

1. The first picture is the difference between last summer's shorts (size 60) and this summer's shorts (size 38)!
2. The second pic is me actually IN size 38 shorts. Unbelievable!
3. The third pic is a new comparison shot, though it's not that much different from the last one I took. I think there's only 6 or 7 pounds difference since the last comparison.
