Default Great Progress!

Mike, you're making great progress - I'm really proud of you! Your fluid and protein intake are impressive! You seem to be doing really well with getting in the right amounts, especially this early after your RNY. I'm pretty sure the long-timers here will tell you that the 80-100 grams of protein per day is a goal that takes time to achieve - very few seem to be able to do it quickly and easily. You seem to be in a very good place for your stage of recovery and will probably be able to get in the recommended amount soon. Keep up the good work - you're an inspiration!

Hello Mike!

I'm glad you posted an update. As we had surgery on the same day, it's kinda nice to see how I compare.

I'm still having trouble getting comfortable in bed. I had lap. surgery but I did have an umbilical repair done at the same time and it's in that area that I get tugging and stinging. So, I ultimately end up sleeping on back which I don't particularly like.

I'm doing pretty good with the protein too - around the same numbers but I have to include the protein drinks which I hate.

Congratulations on an impressive weight loss. I guess it was bound to slow down but isn't it wonderful to know that you won't be seeing those pounds again.

I'm proud of you - hugs.

Default Three Weeks Out!

I've written on other threads that things seem to be okay right now. I made shrimp for dinner and I was able to eat 8 of them. (in half an hour...) Before the surgery, I would have eaten the whole bag in five minutes WITH an assload of pasta. God, they were good. I added a little Molly McButter, some Olive Oil spray and a little garlic. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm.

I thought I would post a new pic of the scar. It looks MUCH better than it did when I first came home and is WAY better than I thought it would look before I even had the surgery. It feels okay, too. I'm a little sore underneath the skin about two inches around the incision, but it's not a painful sore, it's more like an "I did too much today" sore. It's not sore enough to keep me from sleeping on my side...and I have been doing so comfortably for several days now. I don't want to seem like Sunshine Steve, but I'm in a good place. Well, at least until I go back to working all day instead of being off!

Click Here if you've got the "stomach" for it!

This will be the eventual midline of my six pack. Right now, it's still kind of a one pack.

-Mike

you said "assload" and I spit my latte out! I thought.. this guy must be from NY.. I have never heard that anywhere but here!

Sounds like you are doing awesome. Your scar looks better than some of my little ones.. not too shabby. And is that little pumpkin your son? OMG WHAT a cutie! And what a great reason to be healthy!

thanks for sharing!

It's our daughter, Lily...and while I'm in New York right now, I'm originally from North Carolina. I've been saying "assload" since birth practically. (With much love to the company who makes Joy dishwashing detergent, as that is what my mother used to wash my mouth out with when I said it many moons ago.)

I found myself wondering just how big is an 'assload'? Is that the same as a 'pantload". Cracks me up to hear you talk about getting your mouth washed out with dishwashing liquid. My mom used bar soap, sometimes I wonder if she got the 'mom memos'.... it was awful, the barsoap would scrape off on your teeth on the way out, and bleck, I'm spitting just thinking about it! haha. Your scar looks amazing for only 3 weeks. And FINALLY...your little punkin is ADORABLE!

Lily is adorable!

Your scar is a lot less dramatic than I thought it would be Mike. I can see it turning into quite the conversation point next summer when you're wearing your Speedo!

We had surgery the same day so I feel a little kindred spirit - I'm proud of you sweetheart - you're doing a great job...hugs.
