Wow, I spent my entire day at work reading this thread today! Mike, your journey has been amazing! I am pre op right now, and I have knots in my stomach of jealousy from the things I read! I want that to be me and I want it now! Lol!! Seriously, thanks for sharing everything with us and keeping up with it so well for so long. It's been a real inspiration for me. Can't wait for the next post! :-)

Try that 5 day pouch test--it was a nice jump start!

Are you home anytime this weekend? I was going to call...

New milestone this morning!

I'm under 250 pounds. I haven't been under 250 since 1994, after my brief stint on Jenny F'ing Craig. Previous to 1994, I was 205-210 when I graduated high school, and over the next five years, had fluctuated through the 200's and into the lower 300's thanks to a series of deep fried regrets and misguided attempts at "healthy" lifestyles, including a dietitian with an unpronounceable name and an accent so thick it was hard to understand her advice, though she had no trouble saying, "$15 now thank you pay me man smart skinny man."

So I'm roughly 39 pounds away from my high school weight and I couldn't be more thrilled. Honestly, I've been saying to myself for years that 250 would be a comfortable weight for me--and it is. I'm more comfortable now than when I was over 400, but it's like a mission now to get down further. At 400, 5 or 10 pounds went unnoticed. Now, I can feel 5 or 10 pounds in my clothes and SEE a difference. I'm just amazed at how this is all going. I'm grateful for where I am and how all of a sudden, I have my life back.

One of the things that is really cool is that I'm being invited now. At 400 pounds, no one was really mean to me or anything, but I was not included in group things, fun activities at work, etc. It was assumed, I guess, that I wouldn't participate because I was so heavy, and that my inclusion would mean consideration for "fitting" into different places. That's been removed. My wife and I have been invited to parties, I've been to concerts and movies (and fit in the seats), in short, we've got this "ticket to ride" again and it feels just as good as losing the weight. I never thought being involved and active would be this awesome, for my body AND my brain! We're even considering going to an amusement park this summer--something I haven't done successfully in over 10 years! (I've been to several, but was unable to ride many of the rides--I was too big! Thank God for the Hall of Presidents at Disney, huh? J/K )

249, and feeling fine!

Have a great day, y'all!

-Mike

I agree with Claire.. don't now you very well.. but I LOVE reading your posts.. you're definitely one of my favs around here (as is she, btw)..

Your posts are always so positive and quite often irreverent.. I also read through your thread and found the journey you've taken to be inspiring..

I'm envious of your students, as well.. to have a teacher such as yourself is a gift they are lucky to receive.. someday they may well come to understand just how much!
