Samm...good progress sweetie. I TOTALLY understand the warmth thing. I still have my electric blanket on my bed and my hubby is not too happy about it. I still have very cold hands and feet.....I sat in the sun (as you know) for the past few days as its the only time I can keep warm. You will have a nice COOL summer this year. I attribute it to less calories, loosing all the body fat that we used to carry around.
Most winters here I kept out my summer shirts and such as I was always too warm. I now own sweaters for the first time in my life. I even now buy summer cartigans (zip-up) to wear at work as I am cold. Even this far out for me, it hasn't changed...but if you read other posts - even from those living in warm climates, they get cold too. Do the hot cocoa recipe with the skim milk powder...keeps you nice and warm. :-)

samm girl, from one tough nut to another - DONT over do it chickie, i did, i had lots of energy my first week of surgery and my first week home, cooking, cleaning, shopping, walking, driving kids around, no napping and back to work on day 13 and then WHAM i had used all my stored energy from before surgery and the not getting in enough and using up stored energy had caught up with me and i was so tired for weeks to come until i had my stricture fixed and was eating enough to sustain my daily activities once again and then i felt like the energy was coming back and that was after eight weeks post op, and i know now that is was because i had used all my stored energy too soon and in the first two weeks, then i paid dearly for it, still did everything i normally do, just was so tired doing it.
be careful chickie, dont learn the hard way like me
hugs

So last night I had a bad nights sleep, just hate sleeping on my back so find I am waking up early!
Went to my Dr today and he removed the staples, I wasn't looking forward to that part but to be honest I didn't really feel most of them and if I did it was like a little pinch. He said most people whine at him if he has to do this!! The gastro drain is out too, he made me lie down for 1/2 hr afterwards and let it do its thing, which involved some gross dark green (looked like baby crap) came out, it's still leaking out now so I have to keep it covered for a few days, there really is quite a hole there!!!!!!!!! He put some steri strips over the surgery line and said to just keep it dry for a couple of days. No sign of infection anywhere which is good!
Feeling pretty tired today, had a little spell where the drain site hurt and I got a bit lightheaded and clammy so I just went and lay on my bed and it soon passed.
For lunch I am having an Atkins Advantage shake, very high in protein, vitamins etc but only 1g sugar, smells good but tastes kind of acidic. I figured at this stage though suck it up as its an awesome way to get protein in.

Yippeee staples out. I didn't have any problem with mine coming out either. My drain hole took quite a while to seal up. I kept having to let the goop come out, kept it VERY clean, but it was over a month before it totally sealed up...its a yucky one, but no pain.
Take it really, really easy for the next few days as your belly heals up and seals. Clean it well, keep it dry and not too much pulling or pushing.
The acidic taste might be from keytones that you might be getting already. Its a stage you go through where everything tastes metallic.
You sound like the liquids and soft foods are doing great too. Proud of ya girl.

Thanks Babe! I had a VERY lazy day today, napped and watched DVD's from the UK (Little Britain and Ab Fab). Not much walking today but hell I needed a rest for one day. The Dr said not to do much today so I took him at his word!!

Hello, not much to report this end! Yes we got a smidge of snow!! Sun is out now though so I am hoping that the next few days will be like we had last week.
As for me, I am 16lbs down as of today (14 days out) I am guessing this is an appropriate loss???
Food and drink going in no problem at all, getting a bit bored on the pureed stuff so I decided to try some chicken breast and some hard cheese. I chewed and chewed and they went down no problem. Made a spaghetti bolognese for the family yesterday with whole wheat pasta, took everything they had and blended it up into four portions of 1/2 cup and then I am reheating it with some grated cheese on top, looks like crap but tastes good!! I have eaten out at Tim Hortons, just had the cream of mushroom soup and that was fine. It was hard not to eat the bun!!
Started driving again, no problems with that, took my mother and kids to see Shrek 3 today, not a bad movie but I don't think they can ever improve on the first one.
Sleeping is getting better, managed to sleep on my side for a bit last night, so my backache should improve.
Cut/staple line is very dry and itchy and the drain hole is still that, a big hole, I am keeping it covered 24/7 as it is not closing over much at all!
All in all I am happy with my progress, apparently I am not bitching too much!!!!

Samm I have been slowly catching up on everyone's progress here. Sounds like you are doing fantastic with your recovery. You are one tough chickie!!!!!! Must be all that biking you do.
16 pounds gone forever that must be a great feeling.......and your eating and drinking seems to be going very well.
Sounds like you'll be feeling alright and ready to visit Lisa in a couple of weeks. It will be fun to see everyone and you again.

Samm...sounds to me like you have the hang of things at this stage. Whooo Hooo. New foods are always a good thing. If I didn't have the variety, I think I would go crazy.
The hole in the belly is a funny thing...I was so worried about it, but its a normal thing, just takes time and keeping it covered and clean is the key.
Tim Hortons........you go girl. Nice change for you. I had no problem with their cream soups at that stage. Even the chili.
16 pounds. Awesome. Feels great eh!
Keep warm.......Not nice here today either. We had snow, wind, rain, hail and sun this nice long weekend!

Not much new to report, I have started on "soft" foods now, so today I was at Joeys only and had clam chowder soup (small cup) and some white fish. For supper I scrambled 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and a slice of swiss cheese. All went down well but I think I pigged out on the egg and one would have been enough as it felt a little heavy for half an hour!
Been out and about all day, walking, shopping, driving, sipping Propel Lemon (I am addicted to it!) Taking a Flintstones vitamin, B12 sublingual, Iron with folic acid and a Tums for calcium.
Not so tired today so no siesta, ready for bed now though!
Down 17.5lbs as of today!
