Carrie. So glad to talk to you last night and your news. Fingers are crossed.
Not sure why Nohr didn't call you, or anyone else in my family for that matter. He didn't call another person's family that I know of too.
Hey, I learned a little about the system in Alberta while I was in the hospital. My roomie Lisa, a 4 yr post op with Nohr...we shared lots of stories and then on Monday morning, we had a 30 minutes conversation with Nohr about procedures in Alberta Health Care.
1. Once he does GBP on you, you are his patient for up to 3 months post-op for directly related issues to your gastric bypass.
2. After 3 months, everything has to go through your own doctor and he/she MUST write a letter to Nohr (or any other specialist) requesting they get involved in your case. The patient must make this request from their PCP.
3. I specifially asked him about you and that you have been waiting to hear from him and having difficulties. He stated to me that he didn't know of any referral to him for issues you were having....hmmmm.
4. I stated how crappy I thought the system was for this and he basically said its in place so that patients can't go around making their own arrangements for specialized care...insurance will not cover it without referral. That most issues need to be ruled out with PCP before going to a specialist.
I asked him about me having issues after I leave the hospital and he said I need to see my doctor first and he can always call for assistance and in the worst case, have me referred back to him...but in most cases, the specialist is not required to solve the issues. That there are very few actual GBP issues....hmmmm.
So, I tried honey. Best thing I can say is make DAMN sure that your doctor sent in a letter to Nohr requesting him to consult. The girl in the bed next to me went through MH Emerg. with gallstone pain - after 3 doctors, the third one actually told her that SHE had to request Nohr for him to be brought into the case. Next day, he was there to see her and did her surgery on Saturday. One of the 3 docs that saw her actually wanted to scope her down to her common bile duct to retrieve a stone. I of course in my druggie state, opened my curtain and let him know she was a gastric bypass patient and could not be scope to that point...he hummed and hawed....he apparently then checked with the nurse on the floor to look it up in a medical book. She later told me about this and said "good catch" to me....OMG! Scary world out there.

thanks for the info lisa and for trying very much appreciated
one thing that makes me mad is, farries is considered a specialist too, and i got to see him before my own surgeon? very strange eh?
i see my doc and farries after my scan so mid next week and will have them fax a letter/and that report to nohr, while i am there, and then i will have them call from there and confirm michelle at nohrs office that the paperwork came through
i am having bad attacks the past few days, i am so hoping this will be over soon
so glad you are home, but so worried about you being released so soon.
love you girl.

Had my HIDA scan today. Will get the results next week, will post what they are as soon as I know.
It is a long test, you have to have this dye (not much, not like the CT scan with dye) injected into your arm, then you lay still for an hour, you can watch your liver/gallbladder while they "light" up on the screen. Then he did a two minute picture (pre-fatty meal test), then i had to drink this drink (ensure like thing) i was a little worried and asked what the ingredients were, the sugar content and all, he assured me there wasnt sugar in it (well i dumped) so between the high carbs, high fat and the sugar content (well lets just say, i was not feeling so well).....then i had to wait 30 minutes then have another 2 min picture test...........glad its over with, now hoping it will say "Take the gallbladder out"!
has anyone heard from Dr. Dyann? Is she away? She hasnt been on lately.
