Lisa, dr. nohr told me liquid/blended diet for the first 8 weeks, then the video thing then i could try foods after that.

i have an appt with the dietician on the 24th of this month, hoping that will shed some light for me

wow, i am looking at your menu and i cant imagine getting all that in, 1/4 cup of fluid and when i try food, im lucky to eat a tsp of, like the cottage cheese this morning, was going to try for a tablespoon, only got in a teaspoon before i felt full and i learned not to eat after that feeling cuz thats when i puke....oh chili...yumm, i wish, i am going to try stew (mushed up) for supper tonight, i put it in my slowcooker before i went to work and cannot wait to try that...but i keep thinking why would nohr tell me blended/liquid only for the first 8 weeks, and you were having food by now? i dont get it.

Popsicles really are the key to surviving early out. I ate snow cones - no flavor and loved the crunching of ice. Cold was never an issue for me, some it was.

Your meals now should be food, not liquids. Liquids happen between meals up to 1/2 hour or so before you eat and about an hour after you eat. The liquid meals can be of substance ie: protein....chicken soup, tomato soup, cocoa, protein drinks.

Feel free to email me...or chat here.......We are here for you!

An example of eating for a day at your stage was:

B- yogurt, boiled egg white (maybe only 1/2)
L - cheese, egg white, applesauce or chunky soup, maybe 1/4 grilled cheese
D - chili or ground beef with sauce, or cheese w/tomato sauce

In between each of the meals: 2-3 popsicles, 1 bottle of water, chicken cup o soup, 1 cocoa, 1-2 herbal tea. Slow but steady. I tried to space out my meals by 5 hours....thus an hour of waiting and 4 hours of actively drinking.

Default okay, here I go.....

Carrie, now you get to be lectured by me, another vocal forumator. I weighed only 10 lbs more than you when I had my surgery 11 months ago. I had hassles and had a real problem with nausea and not wanting to eat--exactly as you describe. I started screaming downhill weight-wise and was excited that I could lose so fast, even though I felt like a cowpie. I felt like I wasn't even in my body, spacy, low low energy. I finally broke down and checked my symptoms and found that I had a critically low protein intake. I researched what my options were and started using a product called Isopure. It delivers 40 g of protein per bottle. It tastes like gator aide or propel, but when you need the protein it tastes like Nectar of the Gods. Not everyone likes it, so don't rush out on my account and buy 4 cases of the stuff. Your tastes are going to change on a day by day basis, as will your nausea and strength. You'll have 2 good days, then for no good reason you'll feel like crapon the 3rd. You'll eat something 8 times and the 9th time it will make you puke your guts out. The only constant is change and that is frequent.

When we all tell you to rest, sip, walk, rest, sip, walk--it is a reminder to each of us to go back to the basics when we have that 9th time One of the bad things is that we can still have days or hours like you are having even after a couple of years. This wasn't the easy way out, and the list of possible complications is as long as your arm. Many of us have had severe complications, multiple complications. But we would all do it again, as anyone here would tell you.

What you are going through is normal and natural and we call Hell Week. We've all been there, and totally understand the 1st dump, the 1st Wow Moment, the 1st poop.

You won't speed up your weight loss by eating less than is recommended--your body will go into starvation mode and you will not lose weight. You will however increase your chances of feeling like $hit and doing bad things to your body, like losing your hair and losing muscle mass. Trust us on this one....

Last week I spent time in the hospital due to small bowel obstruction, and the chances are I will need a lap to get things right. I've lost 102 lbs in 11 months, but have felt pretty cruddy most of the time, and I mostly have my own self to blame, because I didn't follow the rules.

thanks for the words of wisdom, i am following what i was told, eat three times a day and drink only water (only water is too hard, so drinking propel, cannot find ISOPURE here)...i was also told not to eat or drink when i am full, so i stop, but that feeling can last hours and when i try to drink anyway i puke, so i am following rules as my body will allow me to, and i would love to eat real food, but i was told by the doc liquid/blended diet only until 8 weeks, so do i disregard what he says and try real foods? i have a dietician appt in a few weeks, i am hoping that will help...for now i am putting stuff in my mouth as soon as i feel i can

again, thanks for looking out for me, so glad to have any advice/experiences thrown my way, it helps a great deal!!!

thanks

Carrie, call your doctors office to clarify. I don't mean to sound like I'm picking on you but, you REALLY NEED to get more in. Your whole body, your organs, your brain... they all need that food and liquids. Stop saying you can't do it. YOU CAN DO IT! Mind over matter hon.
I feel you are shooting down a lot of suggestions. We know what we are talking about. Take heed before you end up in the hospital due to dehydration. Or with kidney stones from too little fluid intake. Or worse cuz you passed out and gave yourself a head injury. I'm not trying to be mean. I guess I'm trying the "scared straight" method. I'm a nurse. I know what I'm talking about. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE 24th to talk to the nutritionist. MAKE THAT CALL.
Lecture done. Thanks.

Default You go Michelle!

Thanks for picking up where I left off! I found out you were right by experience, didn't trust that someone else might actually know more than me. I have been humbled and now join in the harmony--rest, sip, walk, repeat!

Carrie...Nohr doesn't give alot of direction on eating and you really have to pull it out of him. He has told many of his patients different things. I can only speak for what he told me. Outside of the stricture at 6 weeks, I did really well. I got home on week 3 and by week 8 was eating all foods. I just introduced them slowly and I was fine. The dietician and this board were my real support to get through this stage. I agree with the protein drinks - I use Nectar (GNC) and its fruit flavored - still use it. I know Nohr doesn't like protein drinks, but this is one area that I don't follow his guidelines..the dietician is in full agreement with me taking them. Believe us....protein is the key to success in weight loss, strength, muscle building, fat loss and well being. If you don't get enough, you can get very sluggish and sick. Hydrating yourself is even more important...popsicles!!!!!

Took me a while to learn this stuff, but the people here know what they are talking about. Maybe one day Nohr will get something together on the eating plan!

thanks lisa, i tried to call his office - no luck...so i called my doctor...he said to follow what nohr told me and agreed that liquid/blended diets were best and that i should be drinking at least 6 cups of water, i told him about being able to drink propel, he said that was fine as it is a vitamin supplement as well.

i decided to try stew for supper had two pieces of the meat and a small piece of potato smothered in gravy to make it go down easier and have had popsicles, water and propel today, so far my intake for calories is 556, that is much better.
