My surgeon doesn't take the gall bladder, but the surgeon in his office that only does open GBP...he automaticly takes the gall bladder no matter what healthy or not...so some docs. do...too bad they all don't...

I still put my money on internal hernia
I know you guys all think gall bladder but what she describes is so close to what I'm experiencing..... and I don't have a gallbladder. I had an open and my surgeon decided to take mine out, when he opened me open. He said sometimes he leaves them but since this my 2nd go around with major weight loss, he made the decision on the spot. Hearing what you all have gone through, I'm glad he did.
On the internal hernia.....
They only happen to 1.5% - 2% after GBS with a higher instance for lap surgeries, most present within a year but there have been know cases as far out as 4 years. They present with the same symptoms as gallbladder with the excepted difference of gallbladder is usually right side and internal can be either left or right, right up under the rib cage. I know of 3 people here with the local surgeon that ended up with internal hernia. The thing I found most interesting was that over 60% of the time even when the pain/symptoms were acute they still didn't show up on the CT. Most surgeons went in on exploritory and found the hernia.
For the last 1.5 weeks my symptoms have been calm but this morning I woke up with the sharp pain on the left side under my ribs, nausea and sipping my protein drinnk has been a chore.
Carrie.... hang in there... regardless of what it is hernia or gall bladder, I hope they fix you this Friday. Stay strong and don't let them send you home until they have a plan. A real one! Just sit you butt in a chair and refuse to move until they give you somethign concrete....
Now I'm laughing at myself, I have no idea if it's even possible for you to do that, given your different medical system but if it is..stage a sit-in! eat in front a the doc and let him watch you suffer and ask himif he'd like to join you!?! I'm sending you strength vibes.... hugs and my sassy mouth... give them hell

(on knees saying prayer) Thank you Lord for lettin' me already have my gallbladder out before my WLS or I'd be the next in da line behine Duckie, I jes know it!
Duckie, get it checked girl! You have the symptoms! It WILL go away, but will always come back, so don't tell yourself.....well it's gone now, so I'll wait. You will find yourself in a pickle and really sorry you waited. I thought I would die just waiting 3 days to have mine out years ago. It gets really bad! Please have it checked.....please....... I dont want you to go through what Lisa and Carrie are going through! Keep us posted. And Carrie, I never wanted ANYONE to have surgery for something so bad as I want you to get that gallbladder OUT of your little body! I pray each time I sign on here that I will see where Jen has posted you are in surgery. Let us know the second it happens Jen!

May be we need to have a "staplers unite, kick some butt...road trip". If 200 angry, beautiful, people storm the dr.s office, someone will have to do something...right.....at least it would be on TV....can you get away with that kind of stuff in Canada?
Sure does get one riled doesn't it. Sweet heart...we are all pullin for ya....don't know what else to do.

I've been wanting to take my 29' RV out for a little jaunt. She sleeps 8, or more if they're small or friendly. I also keep my 32 oz baseball bat (known as the Peacekeeper) in the RV--who's up for ROAD TRIPPING???
I would need help with the gas money. It might be cheaper to fly, but not nearly as fun.
I fantasize about driving across country to drop in my Sistahs. How cool would that be?

If this doesnt work.. I will insist she come here and deal with it... can you say out of country insurance?... I would end up tied to a Canadian mounty... (hmm.... let me think about that) ... for killing her doc(s), and everyone that stood in her way...

CAn she do that?
I know in CA if she presented with her symptoms at a county hospital, they would see her and operate if needed and if she can't payu then they just don't collect.
At least that's the way is happened woth our visiting australian student... no insuance and the bill was written off my the hospital.
Not a bad thought if NY does that... I know at a federal level no county run hospital can turn away people. I have UC Davis about 6 blocks from our house, it's one of the best in the country, except they don't take on revisions, they will only see you if one goes bad and you end up in their hospital with complications.
I'll pitch in for some of the ticket and she can stay at our place... I have a private 2 bed/1ba apartment downstairs that woudl be perfect!
