wow, i went to the grocery store today thought i would try one smaller than costco like i did on monday, that was painful, walking and standing is not easy, sitting is fine and laying is fine, but walking and standing hurts
anyway i got groceries for my family, and wouldnt you know it, everything i went for to get for me - nothing, s/f carnation instant breakfast, none, s/f popsicles, none - even cup of soup, sold out, what the heck was that, so i got nothing, everyone kept saying dont buy too much before your surgery, well i went extreme on that, i bought nothing and now i can find nothing, so tomorrow i will have to venture to walmart, oh man i better sleep well tonight...lol
i think my staples are ready to come out, the skin seems to be growing in around them, how do you know if your staples are ready to come out?

Hi Carrie. Staples will be irritating and itchy and thats good...you don't want them out too soon with the open procedure as the large incision needs to heal. At the earliest is about 12-14 days....You should book an appt. with your doctor for Monday - 2 weeks out.
I can't find SF carnation here in canada. Thus the reason I use the Nectar protein powder from GNC. Walmart ...you might be out of luck for any sugar free stuff. I found the best shopping place was Safeway. They have the popsicles and cup o soup. I have to travel 100km (60 miles) to get my sugar free popsicles, so I bring the cooler.
Yes, walking is challenging. You are doing really well...I didn't venture out much till after the 2nd week, and then only very small walks - no pushing or pulling a shopping cart!
How is the eating going - aside from the unsuccessful shopping trip? Getting in fluids and food?

hi lisa
dont worry, i took my son with me, he lifted all items and pushed the cart, unloaded the cart, repacked the cart (superstore) and loaded into the van, brought them in the house and put them away, what a great kid I have.
my mom brought me some s/f popsicles the other day when you suggested them, she got the from Sobeys, i will try safeway, i like shopping there, and the walmart is in the same mall as that, so i will try both stores either tomorrow or saturday depending on how i feel, i drove today for these errands and was fine to do so
i am drinking water, eating enough i think, i dont know really, if its soup i can eat 1/4 cup at a time, if its water im drinking, it fills me up fast, get a heavy feeling from water, but drink it slowly and as often as possible, i have 2 popsicles a day, so soup, popsicles, water, thats about it, i will try yogurt tomorrow, but i hate yogurt, well i did before my surgery so i will try it, and i hated cottage cheese, oh yeah which the store was sold out of too, i was going to try that too, im tired of mushroom soup now, so i need to find something for tomorrow, i have some yogurt tubes of the kids', i keep them frozen for a ice cream like treat for them, i guess i could try one of those?
i am craving my cafeine free diet pepsi, gotta fight mind games wow didnt expect that, should have, but didnt

monday, got my tube and staples out, that was horrible
i started back to work yesterday, taking it slow and easy, only lasted two hours yesterday, but five hours today, plan to do four tomorrow as five was a bit much, struggled with the last hour of trying to wrap things up, so will do only four hours tomorrow
eating sucks, still on soup diet, when i feel like i can eat, living on s/f popsicles and water really, tried yogurt once, made myself choke it down, still hate it.
my clothes are very loose now - a nice surprise every time i put something on to see how big it is
hey Lisa - love your new picture - you look amazing girl!!!

You are doing amazing Carrie! I'm walking down that road with you and I know it seems pretty long but it's great isn't it?!
I too have lost 15lbs but don't know how it's affected my clothes cause I've only been out once and they were baggy clothes!
Back to work Monday and my work stuff was pretty tight before so that should tell tales!
Keep going Carrie - you'll do great!

warning
thanks for the cheers
i didnt want to tell anyone what i did, but in hopes it will heed a warning to others that might think trying the meal replacement Ensure is a good idea, read this first.
Yesterday, a friend brought me some Ensure to try, I read the label to see how much protein, carbs, sugar etc was in it......i didnt see the sugar grams per serving, so i opened it (butter pecan flavour). I sipped it, drank not even a quarter of the small can, and started to feel funny, light headed, spacey, weak, nauseated, cold sweat and my heart started racing, beating so hard i could feel it in my teeth (seriously). My youngest daughter was in the room, i felt weak so i went to the couch told her i wasnt feeling well and just needed to rest, i then passed out - cold, my daughter didnt realize it. My husband came home and woke me, it was not a sleep, and omg did i feel horrible, i still dont feel great today, very weak, shakey and light headed, cant stand up for more than a few minutes without feeling faint...my mom brought me some propel, i think it is helping me to feel better as i seem to be coming around more so now........just a warning to anyone new at this to read the INGREDIENTS too...not sure why i didnt, i have been, but didnt last night, turns out the second ingredient is corn syrup, the third, sugar...and the vanilla one that is in my fridge that will not make it into my body, ingredients: water, sugar, etc.....i will definitely read everything on anything i am going to consume.

Carrie...what a good lesson. I still get surprised when I read ingredients. Well, you have learned your tool is working for you and one of the lucky ones that dumps on sugar. I tried a little ensure, watered down at 6 weeks when I had a stricture....maybe 2-4 teaspoons at the most. A lot of people don't realize that there is lots of sugar in Ensure.
Outside of that, I hope you are doing well. Are you starting to introduce new foods now?
