I had my first weight mangement class which is required by my insurance to get approval for surgery, and I swear people, were asking "how fast can I get back to drinking carbonated drinks I can't live without Pepsi"....can I eat this and that....Me and the instructor looked at each other in shock b/c these people did no reseach on WLS.... they had no idea that sometimes a JP drain was going to get attached....Mind you the class was only 1 hour long, and the instructor wasted roughly 40 minutes answering simple questions. I even chimed in on some answers.

My guess is the people who really struggle with this surgery are the ones who dont reseach this MAJOR surgery to the T....

Hi,
It sure sounds like you are having a different experience than I had. I am will have my 2 year appointment later this month. I see my primary physician every month and he knows how much I am struggling. I am exercising at least 5 times a week. Walking DVD's at home. It is helping me to maintain my weight and I do feel great after each mile. I can do 2 miles which takes about 30 minutes. My primary care told me I should voice my problems to whomever I see. I also don't think I told you that I have been part of a study from the psychological weight loss program at Penn. They have been following me for these past two years. They were thrilled to have me since during my psychological exam it was discovered I am an obsessive compulsive person in all aspects as well as eating. Keep the faith.

Marci

Take care,

Marci

Hi,

I'm scheduled to have my psych eval on April 24th. Hopefullly everything will be ok. I had asked my primary a few years ago to refer me to a psych b/c I thought I had some issues in my head, maybe some compulsive disorders, but I was going through a difficult time in my life. I never really shared my thoughts with anyone. When I landed in the hospital with really bad depression during my gallbladder issues, I thought I wasnt in reality... one of the psych docs evaluated me, and read me a quote and asked what was the first thing that came to me mind... "If you believe in a man made out of glass". My answer was so funny to them " I was like yeah like Samuel Jackson in Unbreakable"....he was known as Mr. Glass . .... After that I snapped out of it....Thank God..b/c the day I came back into reality was the start of Eagles training camp. ..so I will never forget that. But I'm really focused, and know I will have several bumps in the road that will try to slow me up, but I'm determined to get support from anywhere I can get it......

Hey Tony, It's been good and really interesting reading about your experience so far. Hope that all is going well for you. Just curious - any updates on your journey so far?

I'm only just beginning the process, myself and am hoping to have my surgery done at Penn. Good luck with everything. Greg
