I'm not sure I've ever seen a forum where you can respond to annoucements. Nice Good way to make sure everyone sees your annoucements. *ponders*

Anyway, if the side column isn't received well, you could do a double navigation bar above and below the orange banner. It's just a quick edit to navbar.
