I’m pleased to announce that Pomerado Hospital has recently been designated a Center of Excellence under the certification program sponsored by the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. Qualifying for COE status was truly a team effort by the physicians, staff, and administration of Pomerado Hospital. Leaders included Medical Directory Charles Callery, M.D., Bariatric Coordinator, Kelly Neil, FNP, and Beth Gardner, R.N., nursing coordinator. Finally, Kim Dodson, R.N., M.B.A. coordinated efforts by the administration to organize the hospital resources for the site visit and review process.
The ASBS Center of Excellence program was designed by senior members of the bariatric surgery community to assure that surgeons and their hospitals commit the resources and talent necessary to give top notch care. With the recent popularity of bariatric surgery, patients and the insurance industry have looked to physician organizations such as the ASBS to set high standards. Participating and supporting the ASBS COE program is our professional commitment to give the best care to our patients.
I would like to take this chance to thank the Pomerado Administration led by Jim Flinn, for making all the resources necessary for this effort. Some of the capital equipment that the hospital has invested in include motorized beds that turn into chairs, a CT scanner that will accommodate a 450 pound patient, a wing of the hospital with specially trained nurses to care for the bariatric patient, and specialized operating room equipment including instruments, ventilators, and operating table. As our population in general has become larger, the hospital has capitalized on the leadership of the bariatric surgery program to bring the entire facility up to speed. Whether the patient needs weight loss surgery, has a fractured hip, or has pneumonia the facilities and expertise are available at Pomerado Hospital.
