LOL - welcome to my world!

For what it's worth - you get more caffeine from a pot of chocolate pudding.

Don't become obsessed about this stuff Holly. If you're out and about and you want a cup of tea and can't find decaf, don't worry - have a cup of regular stuff. I can promise you, the occasional cup of regular tea isn't a problem. Just watch the sugar.

I know all surgeons are different . . . my surgeon told me I COULD have soda after 3 months. However, the NUT said I could have soda & beer () after 6 months!

I am waiting the 6 months although I have tasted a sip of soda here & there since the surgeon did say 3 months was fine. I hope they both know what they are talking about since everybody else seems to think no more soda!

I say drink the diet pop. I do. I have been since ca 6 months out. Just know & appreciate you limits. Its not everyone that can drink soda afterward.

Hey.. I'll never tell someone they can't do something- drink pop.. have your cigars.. drink those alcoholic drinks..

YAY, lets have a party.

But if you want to keep from having transfer addictions and maintain a weight loss and not have other issues.. you won't be foolish.

And someone has in their sig something I like to keep in mind: Just because you CAN eat it, doesn't mean you SHOULD

In this case, it's 'drinking'.

And I say this as someone who struggles with not eating things that I CAN.. but SHOULDN'T and am dealing with some issues in this regard. Not saying I'm perfect I'm just saying that maybe you can learn from my mistake.. don't start something you'll regret.

He gave me the 'diet Dr Pepper' generic brand to try, but they also make orange, lemon lime, Cream soda ...etc.

Does anyone else out there have any good substitues?

If you can add non-flavored protein powder to it that would be better and make it better for you. Just a thought.

I figured I was going to miss my sweet tea but I really haven't yet. On occasion I have had a glass with splenda but I never finish it. It's weird considering I had sweet tea in my bottle as a baby!!

I took 2 sips of A & W diet rootbeer the other day while out and boy oh boy I won't do that again any time soon. The gas was trapped in my esophogus and pouch and it hurt like crazy. I could not burp no matter how hard I tried. I tapped my sternum till I thought I'd have a bruise there. My friend who was having lunch with me thought I was choking and ready to do the Heimlich (sp?) procedure on me. I would not suggest that anyone begin drinking carbonated beverages any time soon after surgery (I'm 5 months post op). Water and crystal light are my friends right now - along with the odd tea and Starbucks skinny latte decaf with S.F. syrup. Let's raise our glasses - Here's to hydration without carbonation!!!!

Rhonda, your post has convinced me ! Believe me I was a diety coke addict and I reluctantly gave it up about a month ago. I moved into water and crystal lite, my new addiction. Believe me, no A & W for me ! Sorry you had to go through this ! Diann
