Baja doesn't sound silly to me, I don't want to get into the 100's but my quirk is on the eliptical I won't get off the machine if there is a zero in the calories burned number, it is weird I know I would rather stop on 999 calories that get to 1000. Zero's bum me out man, and that fact really freaks my wife out too.

I spoke with my trainer about BMI and he said put the BMI out of your mind, essentially it was a tool to get the surgery, after that he explained it is a formula created by insurance companies to tell you, you are fat and need to pay higher rates. The formula is based on sedentary individuals, so if you work out and have any muscle at all your not going to make BMI. A better indication is BF% and he said a good goal there is 20-25%. By the way I am 6 foot 6 and my surgeon said he would like me to get to 200 pounds, I almost choked on my protein shake. I respect my surgeon a lot and I know his intentions are solid but I am shooting for 240 and then look into plastics to fix my skin, if I lose another 10 pounds in that process, I will with my trainer set a new goal, up a little or down some more.

Well I have to say that when My doc said he wanted me to weight 150.. I kinds looked at him sideways.. With me being 6ft tall ( I know tall for a woman) .. I dont remember ever being 150... so I am not sure what I would look like at that weight.. so I have just decided .. to get healthy ... and where ever that lands me I am ok with that.. I do know I would like to get to atleast 170... and I know what I have to do to get there ..

Amanda,

My wife is very tall to, 5'10" so just a little shorter than you and she is in the 170's and looks amazing! It is crazy, I tell her all the time, and she never notices all the men checking her out. So I think your thinking is right on track, I think we get to caught up in the BMI trap.

Yeah I know what you mean, I was just telling my friend about this today, I told her how you get addicted to the numbers. It isn't logical at all, I have actually begun to prepare myself to deal with a stall. So far I have been about 6-10 pounds a week or so, which is great, but you know it can't last forever. Anyways I think your profile pic looks great, I think jeans were created for women and yours look great!

Your rate of weight loss won't slow if you consistantly shock your body and increase your training and eating arrangements as you get closer to goal.

People don't have to plateau. Atleast not in the general sense of what people think of(2 weeks without weightloss, ect). It is true your body will need adjustment time but, if you consistantly stay perfect with your eating and your workouts increase your weightloss will never really cease.

Especially if you are a man(we typically have more muscle and develope better). Muscle mass really eats calories.

Yeah I am a man,

That is what I am hoping for, I just hired a trainer who is going to help me, you know the first 3 months or so I think I am losing weight because there is no choice, I haven't tolerated many foods yet, but now I want to continue the weight loss, try and avoid stalls, or at least extended stalls and learn the healthy lifestyle that will help me avoid the pitfalls of regaining the weight. So I am going to let my trainer start micromanaging me for awhile and I am going to sponge up his knowledge.

Thanks for the reenforcement!

Eric

BMI is such a joke, I can not for the life of me figure out why the medical community still uses this as a measurement with so many other factors affecting a persons structure and weight.

I will probably never be a in BMI "normal" range just because of my structure and the way I am put together. I have no real specific "goal" weight to be totally honest but when I get down to where I feel good again and I am able to be a active as I want with no restrictions I know I will be close to the weight I will need to be at and maintain for my life.

I guess where you go with further weight loss all depends on how you feel about things as you drop more weight and get closer to your goal.

I can definitely say I'm happy with where I'm at, regarding my weight. Although I do wish I could drop below the 200 mark - even for a short period of time... ONEderland would be cool to experience as a 43 year old man.
Im new. What is ONEderland? (under 199 pounds) Im guessing.
