Default Working out

So I have been working out lately. Well let me rephrase that, just once a week right now, but that is going to change after I get back form Thanksgiving travels. I have noticed that I fatigue really quickly. I find that my leg muscles are very shakey after a short work out. I mentioned this before on another thread, but honestly you would have thought I completed a long love making session. Not trying to be crude here, but trying to say it tactfully as nothing else has fatigued my legs like that before.

I am hoping this passes as I don't like feeling that way after each work out. I was surprised my legs acted that way as I walk at least 2 miles a day. So go figure? I can only assume those muscles on the tops of my legs were not getting the workout I presumed?

I am so fearful of losing muscle, so I am sticking with it. I will admit that the whole big rubber ball thing is annoying, but you definitely feel the results of that device. I am purchasing one this weekend and a few free weights. My strength has always been in my legs and back. My chest is fairly strong, but my arms.. are like..not very strong.. Well, at least not where I want them to be. I remember when my sons were born how strong my upper body became. Lugging a 10-20lb baby around all the time helps the upper body a lot more than people know.

Well that's it for now.

Jeff

Good morning!
You are only a month out, so this is very normal. As the weight came off, I expected to feel so much stronger immediately, but it seems that the recovery from the surgery weakens you at the same time that the weight loss strengthens you. At best it was a break even but I think I actually lost strength for a few months. Plus, you have less fuel in your tank and possibly got a little dehydrated. When you cannot drink in large quantities like before, you have to sip constantly and that is hard to do when you are working out and sweating it out faster than you are putting it in.

I also have come to realize that I used my weight for leverage before and I was not as strong as I thought I was. Weight=Power and as the weight comes off, we rely more on the muscle instead of just the weight. My legs were pretty strong from carrying around all that weight. My upper body was much weaker than I realized.

Keep at it! Take it slow and build up as you regain your strength. Drink a lot during your workouts too.

Good luck!
-Mike-

Just take it slow.

I really hate the walking thing as an exercise, only because I don't think it really does anything, at least not for me.
What do you do with that "rubber ball"?
Our upper bodies are usually much weaker, since we tend to workout our lower bodies much more, just by getting around.
As squishy said, it all takes time and you need to heal first. I thought the same thing before I was allowed to lift again.

Default The Rubber Ball

The weight loss center group that did my surgery provides a fitness person who teaches you how to use the various pieces of equipment at the gym. She shows you how to workout from home using two weights and the ball. It looked sort of silly at first, but it definitely works. She Provides a group of exercises for the Upper and Lower body. The ball allows you to work the core muscles as your body is forced to balance while performin these tasks. At first I thought you had to work for Cirque Du Soleil to be able to use the two together, but found it was not that difficult. I am currently using 10lbs weights for this routine.

Not to dishearten you but I know I have lost a lot of muscle, but at the same time remember our bodies are changing and you have to work within these confines, as it were...

I have taken to high proten poweders and milk immediately after work outs and that seems to be helping stop the loss so far and sure it will help build fast. One thing you can google for muscle growth (no not sterioids) is called H.I.T. = High Intensity Training. There is a LOT out there on this and some of the biggest body builders in the world do these work outs.

Not that you want to have that much muscle but its a good way to start building, and you dont have to be in the gym for hours each day. Real quick premis of HIT is this:

-Work outs under 45min
-1 set of 7-10 reps
-*MUST* fatigue muscle to failure (meaning even if a gun was to your head you could not possible do one more rep)
-Full body workout no more then 3 times a week of you over train and stall progress.

I have put 2 friends and 2 co-workers on this program and they have all seen a difference in a few weeks, big gains but not silly amounts.

But dont gloss over cardio either tho...

Oh and while you are google'ing, if you do, check out Author Jones (inventor of HIT), Ellington Darden (revised HIT), Casey Vader (HIT body builder), and Mike Mentzer (Amazing HIT body builder, RIP)

And not that I am trying to sell you, but just you know I am not a weirdo, I used to bench 285lbs, leg pressed 1144lbs, and ran 3 miles without much issue, weighed 220lbs and nothing jiggled ...

Enjoy,
Jason
